The Day the Earth Stood Still
by Stephen Bennett

As surreal as it seems, homosexual activists have succeeded in deceiving America and legal "gay" marriage licenses will be issued beginning today in Massachusetts.

I was watching CNN as they are broadcasting live, right now, the "festivities and ceremonies of history in the making" in Cambridge, MA where "gay" marriage licenses are being issued.

To think it was only centuries ago where our great nation began when the pilgrims first landed in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Now, Massachusetts will be the place where it tragically all ends.

"D" Day is what many are calling it -- "Destruction of Marriage Day." Yet it's so much more. America has arrogantly declared war against the God of all creation. By America flipping the middle finger at God, I'm sure it will draw a quick and appropriate heavenly response.

America better be prepared for the consequences. Our military forces may be the best in the world, but we have no idea just WHO we have declared war against.

Yesterday as I preached in a Congregational church in Connecticut to an audience of about 1,500 or so, I not only shared my testimony of "coming out" of homosexuality -- but I also listened. I listened afresh to the love and grace of God in a former homosexual's life wondering how in the world He ever reached me.

I have tears in my eyes right now thinking of my wonderful friend Kathy who never gave up on me. She loved me enough to share God's truth about my homosexual sin - and because of the Lord using her, I am free today -- completely free. I thank God for His promise in 1 Corinthians 6:11 - "...and such WERE some of you."

As I introduced my wife Irene and my two precious little children, Chloe and Blake, to the congregation - my heart was overwhelmed with emotion. So many of my friends have died from AIDS and so many homosexual men and women are still out there lost in their sin. I could have still been one of them.

I realize if it were not for Jesus Christ and my friend Kathy - I would probably be in Massachusetts right now with my former "gay" partner waiting in line for our piece of paper. Praise God for His unbelievable mercy.

Today will be a very somber day for me - a day of reflection, a day of prayer and no doubt a day of tears. Civilizations and nations of old have crossed this homosexual threshold - and are now all gone. All that remains are stories in history books.

Now as a prideful America thinks we are different in some way from the rest of these defunct civilizations, it just goes to show how true the biblical proverb is - "...a dog returns to his own vomit."

Today, Monday, May 17, 2004 will always be remembered as the day the earth stood still - a calm before the storm - a nation awaiting the Almighty's response. We know the days are short and evil, yet let us redeem the time doing what we were called to do -- winning the lost to Christ.

Those who know me know I am not a quitter. I love a challenge. Today I am not discouraged. I have even a stronger drive and passion to reach these homosexual men and women with the gospel that set me free over 12 years ago - the gospel that can change their lives for eternity as well.

Do not despair. God doesn't recognize these so called "gay" marriages. They are an abomination to Him and a putrid stench in His nostrils. We also need to know it's not legislation that will reach these lost and deceived homosexual men and women, but one thing alone: the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Let's join together today with a new resolve: to turn this nation upside down with a renewed commitment to evangelize the lost -- especially the homosexual man and woman -- changing our world one repentant heart at a time.
