Girl Scouts in Waco Cause Uproar with Planned Parentood Support

Girl Scouts in Waco Cause Uproar with Planned Parenthood Support

I am writing this message to voice my opposition to the recent attempted boycott of the Girl Scouts cookie sales in Waco. In the past I have always taken a pro life stance but this was going too far. All those idiots did in Waco was make themselves look bad by attacking a bunch of kids who are raising money to go camping. In this day and age we need more organizations like the girl scouts to assist in bringing up young adults with good moral character. As I understand it...the sales went off without a hitch and I think that's great. If that is what being a member of a pro life organization means...then I'm glad I'm not a member...Why don't those jerks pick on somebody their own size.

Thank you for your email criticizing the actions of the Waco Christian pro-life community. You say that you too are pro-life, tell me Mr. Pierce, have you ever written Waco Planned Parenthood to chastise them for the 1000+ little boys and girls they kill each year or is it just Christians who are standing for life and purity that you actively condemn?

If you are interested in bringing up young women with good moral character then I question why you aren't incensed by the Girl Scout's affiliation with a truly wicked organization like Planned Parenthood. PP kills more unborn babies than any organization in the world. Needless to say, this is a money making proposition for them. So naturally any sex training for children given by PP, such as "Nobody's Fool," The controversial sex seminar sponsored by Waco Girl Scouts, is aimed at encouraging, not discouraging, sexual activity. The more pregnancies that result from their bazaar sexual seminars, the more money there is coming into the coffers of Planned Parenthood abortuary. I invite you to visit Planned Parenthood's website for teens < http://www.teenwire.com/index.asp>. Then tell me seriously whether you think teaching teens the how-to's of "dry-humping" and fanning the flames of lust with countless pornographic details of intimate behavior is helping maintain the good moral character of teenagers and whether you think the Planned Parenthood sex agenda is something that the Girl Scouts should be associated with. I'm interested to hear your opinion.

Girl Scouts in Texas Cause Uproar With Planned Parenthood Support

Waco, TX (LifeNews.com) -- Pro-life groups in the Waco area are calling for a boycott of Girl Scout cookies, following a regional girl scout organization's support of a Planned Parenthood event. Two area troops have pulled out of the organization over the Scouting organization's relationship with the nation's largest abortion business.

The Bluebonnet Council of the Girl Scouts, to which 6,000 girls in 14 counties belong, has been criticized by pro-life groups for its sponsorship of Planned Parenthood's "Nobody's Fool" event aimed at educating minors about sexual education. The "education" includes literature saying abortion is an acceptable practice, Donna Coody of Brownie Troop 7087 told the Waco Tribune-Herald.

The Girl Scout council has also recognized Planned Parenthood of Waco's chief executive, Pam Smallwood, as a "Woman of Distinction."

"I applaud the local pro-lifers for taking on this issue because Planned Parenthood of Central Texas is such an aggressive promoter of abortion in Waco," said Joe Pojman, executive director of Texas Alliance for Life.

"By their own admission, Planned Parenthood performed 1,098 abortions in 2001 in their own Waco abortion facility, the latest year statistics are available," Pojman added, referring to a document entitled "A Declaration of Pamela Smallwood," one of the documents involved in a lawsuit against the State of Texas prohibiting the local Planned Parenthood affiliate from using tax dollars directly or indirectly for abortions.

Parents of girls involved in the scouting program were upset by the news.

"That's not who I want as a role model for my daughter," said Lisa Aguilar, mother of a 10-year-old Girl Scout who broke down into tears when her parents explained Planned Parenthood's role in abortions.

According to the conference's organizers, Planned Parenthood's annual half-day event instructs 400-700 boys and girls in grades 5 through 9 "about the changes of puberty, dating, peer pressure, sexually transmitted diseases and aids and pregnancy prevention," and reportedly does not address abortion.

A public service announcement on local Christian radio station KBDE-FM encourages a boycott of the Girl Scout's annual cookie Pisciotta from Pro-Life Waco in the announcement. Local pro-life advocates are receiving praise from many pro-life groups for their actions.

"The scouts and leaders in Waco who recognize that Planned Parenthood is harmful to women and the community are to be commended for their moral courage," Elizabeth Graham, executive director of Texas Right to Life told LifeNews.com. "Girl Scouts promote independence and strength among young women, yet [these] Girl Scouts are tied to an organization who preys upon and victimizes women."

Bluebonnet Council Executive Director Beth Vivio said the council's board will review the decision to continue to sponsor the event at its March 25 meeting.

According to Smallwood and Vivio, they have received much support for the relationship - an idea apparent in the deluge of letters to the editor of the Tribune-Herald criticizing the cookie fast. Twelve area churches also support the "Nobody's Fool" program.

Girl Scout Group Severs Ties With Planned Parenthood After Boycott

Waco, TX (LifeNews.com) -- The Bluebonnet Council of the Girl Scouts of America has issued a statement that it is severing ties with the local Planned Parenthood affiliate, and said it will no longer sponsor conferences run by the abortion business. Less than three weeks after John Pisciotta of Pro-Life Waco called for a boycott of the annual Girl Scout cookie sale, the board of directors of the Waco area council voted to end their partnership with Planned Parenthood of Central Texas.

The decision comes almost a month earlier than expected, as Council Director Beth Vivio said previously that the council would take up the issue at their meeting on March 25. "Girl Scouts does not provide support to Planned Parenthood, nor do we have any national collaboration or relationship with that organization," reads a statement issued from the group's board of directors. "The pressure came when local, web, and national news outlets picked up the story," Pisciotta told LifeNews.com.

"The result was a firestorm of protest about the local Girl Scout and Planned Parenthood entanglement."
