Blood is coursing down the corridors of high schools across America. We have no one to blame but ourselves. In Buffalo, NY, Flip Benham spoke this message for the first time on April 18, 1999. He asked some to pray that he would be as a laser beam that would hit its mark as he delivered this message. Two days later, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold pulled off the second deadliest attack on a school in US history—the Columbine High School Massacre. Violence Moves to North Mecklenburg. That was then and this is now. This past Thursday, October 27, 2005, North Mecklenburg High School experienced the same type of violence that had been unleashed and presently is still engulfing our public schools. Here is The Reason! In high schools across this country (Santee, CA; Littleton, CO; Edinboro, Pennsylvania; Pearl, Mississippi; West Peducah, Kentucky; Jonesboro, Arkansas; Eugene, Oregon), it has become increasingly obvious that the doors of the government schools now serve as an entrance to the very gates of hell. Violence of every sort is overwhelming our public schools in spite of the vain protestations of school officials and the Department of Education. These people have refused to face the real battle for years. Why has our public school system become the most dangerous place for a young person to be alive in America today? Why have our kids, who have been given everything money can buy, become murderous and suicidal, actually killing their friends and themselves in school? Why have our schools become veritable jungles where "survival of the fittest" is a reality? The answer is simple. Violence was done in the hearts of our children long before it manifested itself murderously in the hallways of our schools. The Fear of God Has Been Removed. That's right! God was violently expelled from school by a Supreme Court decision in 1962, Engle v. Vitale. He was banished from the schoolyard by a Supreme Court decision in 1963, Abbington v. Schempp. His Ten Commandments were removed from school walls in, again, another Supreme Court decision Stone V. Graham, 1980. This all-out attack on Almighty God has brought with it severe consequences. His presence has been replaced with police guards, metal detectors, drugs, condoms, gangs, assault, rape, murder and violence of unprecedented order. Remove God and the Devil Devours. We have violently robbed our children of purpose and destiny by removing the fear of God from their education. Gen. 6:11-13, tells us that violence filled the earth because the people God created had chosen to remove Him from their minds and hearts. When God is removed, violence (the devil) always fills the void. How Did We Get to This Point? We fathers have violently removed God from our children's lives by abdicating our responsibility to live Godly before them. Mothers have violently removed God from our children's lives by denying them divine maternal love and dropping them off at day care centers. We all have done violence to our children by allowing the smallest and weakest to be slaughtered at abortion mills. Government schools have done violence to our children by removing the knowledge of God from them. We Are Now Reaping the Consequences! "Do not be deceived America! God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows." That's what the Bible says! We in America have allowed violence to be sown into the hearts of our kids, and we are reaping a whirlwind of terror in our schools. We have removed every vestige of the knowledge and fear of God from our children and should not be surprised at the manifestations of senseless brutality and violence that have filled the vacuum. We are today raising a nation of predators! We have kids who don't give a rip about God, their neighbor, nor themselves. They will rob, kill and destroy simply to get what they want when they want it. We are raising kids without a conscience who kill on a whim. Then we look at each other with awkward amazement and wonder what in the world has happened. We have purposely removed Jesus from the hearts and minds of our children and are suffering the horrible consequences of our foolish arrogance. What Can We Do? To restore peace in the classroom, we must first corporately and publicly repent of our sin – the removal of the fear of God from the hearts and minds of our kids. We must acknowledge the fact that we are not smarter than He, and invite Him back – Ten Commandments and all! We must invite God back to school! He promises to return if we will humble ourselves and pray (2 Chronicles 7:14). What will it be, America? Another godless million-dollar program sponsored by the Department of Education that will never heal the cancer of violence destroying our kids? Or, will we have the courage to call on the Great Physician Himself, and ask Him to perform the necessary surgery that will completely remove the cancer forever! Our prayer for you in North Mecklenburg High School is that Jesus be invited back into your classrooms. It will certainly not be a popular move, but there is no hope apart from Him. He is only a prayer away. He will give you the courage to lay your own life down for the lives of others. Flip Benham
