A Meeting With the Homosexual Community of Charlotte

A Meeting With the Homosexual Community of Charlotte
By Flip Benham
May 24, 2005

I just returned from an eye-opening meeting sponsored by the Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Community Center , the Mecklenburg Gay & Lesbian Political Action Committee (MeckPAC), and the National Organization for Women (NOW). I was not specifically invited to the meeting, but it was advertised as a forum on how to deal with the tactics of the “protestors” who showed up at the “Charlotte Pride” lust fest on May 4th. Being one of those “protestors,” I felt it incumbent upon me to find out what we did to cause such consternation in the homosexual community.

I was amazed that almost 45 people were in attendance, two of whom were Mecklenburg County Commissioners, Jennifer Roberts and Wilhelmenia Rembert. They were both ecstatic about a high profile vote that had taken place at the Mecklenburg County Commission meeting on May 10, 2005. This vote added “sexual orientation” to the nondiscrimination policy for county employee health benefits. God help us! Just one more step in the legitimization of sodomy.

I thought about the 45 people in that room, most lost in the slavery of homosexual lust. They had given up and given in to this lie from the pit of hell. When one of the commissioners, Jennifer Roberts, spoke about the addition of sexual orientation to the nondiscrimination policy, she spoke of it in such sweet “religious” prose, “Being in the County Commissioner 's Meeting on May 10, was like being at a large church meeting. I felt so affirmed and realized that our nation was founded upon the principles of:
1. religious tolerance and freedom,
2. separation of church and state,
3. respect of other faiths,
4. understanding of the different interpretations of our own faith.”

Of course, all of this would have come as shocking news to our Pilgrim Forefathers and Founding Fathers.

Then Wilhelmenia Rembert spoke up and said that she felt the vote on May 10, was a vote for human rights. Wilhelmenia is black, married, and believes with all of her heart that one is born into homosexuality as surely as one is born black. This confusion on her part is tragic. Being born black is certainly not a sin. Being a practicing homosexual is. Sin separates us from God. Sin will send us into eternal damnation unless it is repented of – not approved of. Wilhelmenia, in the sincerity of her heart, has become a willing dupe in the hands of the devil himself to rob, kill, and destroy those enslaved by homosexual lust. By pronouncing that God made them that way and that all is well, she assuaged their guilty consciences, gave them reason to give in to their own sinful nature, and assured them peace with God. Nothing could be further from the truth.

All is not well, Wilhelmenia! If we are ever going to get right, be right, and live right before God, we need help! We are all born sinners according to the Bible (Romans 3:23), and our sinful nature has many strange and vexing ways of manifesting itself. For some it is an overpowering attraction to the same sex, for some it is an overpowering attraction to the opposite sex, for others it is an overpowering bent toward addiction, ad nauseam. However it manifests itself, one thing we can be sure of – it always brings with it, death. We may not choose what our struggle will be, but we do have a choice as to whether or not it will rule over us. That is where the absolute need for Jesus comes to the fore. He is God's only solution for sin.

God does not just approve of our sin and accept us the way we are. Nor does He leave us dangling with no way out of our sinful lifestyle. He gave us His Son. When we give our hearts to Christ, He cleanses us from all our sin and we are saved from eternal damnation. He saves us from the horrible effects of sin – death! That, however, is just the beginning. He also frees us from the powerful sway sin has over us. We don't have to live that way anymore. Ask anybody that has experienced the liberating power of Christ. Many have been saved out of homosexual lust and are free today because of the sanctifying power of Jesus. He then sets us upon a rock and puts a new song in our mouth that we might share this wonderful liberating truth with others.

This is precisely why we go to the homosexual community with the life-saving Gospel of Christ. We don't go to harass people or to act as if we are holier than thou . We are not “protestors,” we are Christian proclaimers. We know that Jesus is the only One who can set the homosexual free. We know the problem and we understand the answer. That is why it is ever so important to speak the truth: homosexuality is a sin – not a human right!

“A truthful witness saves lives, but a false witness is deceitful.” Proverbs 14:25. Both Wilhelmenia and Jennifer were false witnesses for Christ at this meeting. Though neither one mentioned His Name, they both alluded to the fact that they knew Him, were “religious,” and had much support with the mainstream clergy. They were, however, false witnesses who poured out lies (Proverbs 14:5), but they were very comforting lies to those with itching ears looking to rationalize a sinful lifestyle.

When the conversation moved to the Christian witness at the Charlotte Pride event held in Marshall Park on May 4, the atmosphere changed dramatically. The sweet ambiance created by the victorious memories of the County Commission Meeting on May 10, immediately shifted to battle mode. “We were continually harassed by wacko-psycho Christians,” said one.

“If we are going to be a first class city (Charlotte), if we are going to say that tourism matters, if we are going to be like all the other major cities, then we are going to need to show our tolerance for all.” This statement was a clear indictment against Christianity in any form, and a line drawn in the sand that what had happened at the “Charlotte Pride” event this year was not welcomed and will not happen again. What is being referred to here is the Christian invasion of their sodomite lust fest where they were openly celebrating moral perversity in all of its deviant forms.

Well over one hundred Christian witnesses descended on Marshall park with the beautiful praise songs, prayers, preaching, and witnessing of the love of our Lord Jesus. This was not considered to be tolerant. It ruined the day for many – especially the mostly unclad transvestite dancers who were grinding and gyrating in front of children while they, some under the age of five, were placing money in places where they shouldn't.

“Terrorism and harassment infiltrated all of Marshall Park,” cried one young lady. “They tried to close it (the Charlotte Pride event) down,” wailed another. “This festival is a gay affirming event. It hurts my heart to see these Christians harass and humiliate people who are sexually expressing themselves.”

Another said, “ I support them carrying their big tablets – the big Ten Commandments – I was amused. We must not lower ourselves to their level because we will become just like them. We must maintain our integrity and be positive and not join them in doing what they do.”

Finally one said, “When we left the park, I felt victorious. We left victorious – not defeated.” These words give a remarkable indication that this individual was convicted of sin, righteousness, and judgment. The truth of the Gospel of Christ penetrated into the hearts of many. The Christian witness delegitimized the lie that homosexuality is a human right – not a sin.

Several of those at the meeting agreed that, “We must get out of the comfort zone and go where it is uncomfortable.” We must fight the good fight. We must come out, be out, and stay out. We can win this battle one person at a time. There are a large number of people (reasonable people) who are ready to listen, but they just don't have the information. We need allies and then we can win reasonable people to our cause.”

This was beginning to sound like a church meeting, “fight the good fight, Go therefore and make disciples, we must be witnesses to the world, etc.”

Cindy Thompson, the head of Charlotte NOW, said that NOW on the national level was entering into the fray for “Equal Marriage.” This certainly came as no surprise to those of us that have been involved in the abortion battles, because we have long known about the diabolical relationship that exists between abortion and homosexuality. Both bring death.

Cindy awarded both Jennifer and Wilhelmenia the prestigious Giraffe Award . It was given to the two County Commissioners because they were willing to stick their necks out. They certainly did stick their necks out, but it was for the one who comes to rob, kill, and destroy.

Cindy Thompson, though married and straight, (or as one gray-haired lady put it “You mean sexually challenged”), is walking in outright rebellion against God. She has never heard of an abortion she did not like. She is absolutely pro-homosexual. She hates God. And God said of her and all who are like her, “…all who hate me love death.” Proverbs 8:36.

Cindy's blatant feminism is a direct affront to almighty God. It should be no surprise then that death follows her wherever she goes. She would have all of us kill others (abortion) so that we can do whatever we want. She cries the mantra of the seed of the serpent, “My rights, my body, my choice. I do what I want whenever I want. My one commandment is, ‘Don't judge me.'”

This brings me to a very simple conclusion. Those of the homosexual community, the pro-abortion community, and false religious cults, serve their father the devil far better than we Christians serve our Lord Jesus. They are coming out, they are being out, and they are staying out. They have made up their minds to win this culture to their point of view – one convert at a time.

We Christians still haven't decided whether or not we should storm the gates of hell (take on the culture and transform it in the Name of Jesus) or simply get in, be in, and stay in the safety of the four walls of our church buildings. The Cindy Thompsons, the Jennifer Roberts, and the Wilhelmenia Remberts of this world need our truthful witness – not our hidden love.

“Better is open rebuke than hidden love.” Proverbs 27:5.

A short Commentary:

The legitimization of a sinful lifestyle - HOMOSEXUALITY

This stealth legitimization of a sinful lifestyle (homosexual sodomy) by major corporations, cities, counties, and states has become a national disaster. Initially, this lie (homosexual sodomy) crept in among us with very small, incremental steps. Ever so slowly, yet with increasing ferocity the radical homosexual agenda has garnered for itself the much sought after, “politically correct” status. This means that one dare not shine the light of Christ on its utter moral perverseness, or speak a word against it for fear of being branded a homophobic, judgmental, intolerant, hate-filled, bigoted Jesus freak.

Christians from across this nation are finding an incredible double standard applied to the homosexual community by city, county, state, and federal officials and by city, county, and state police departments. The homosexual community can practice sodomy in all of its perverseness in our public parks with nary a whimper from the police. Our city, county, state, and federal fathers have told them to look the other way. When Christians, however, come out of the closet to lift up the Name of Jesus and confront this destructive sin – Katy-bar-the-door! We are in for a quick trip to the local jail. What happened?

On June 26, 2003 , the Supreme Court of the United States of America rendered a decision, based on international law, called Lawrence v. Texas . International law, you ask? Since when has the Supreme Court ever looked to international law for its legal precedents. The Bible, the Constitution, and stare decisis ( past precedent found in previous Supreme Court decisions) have always been its reservoir for legal precedents.

The very structure of the Supreme Court building itself bears witness to the fact that legal precedent in the United States of America has its foundation in the Bible, first and foremost, then the Constitution, and then stare-decisis:

  1. On the top of the colonnade in the front of the Supreme Court building one will find, etched in stone, a row of the world's lawgivers with each one facing the largest and most prominent one in the middle. He is facing forward with a full frontal view … it is Moses holding the Ten Commandments.
  2. As you enter the Supreme Court courtroom, the two large oak doors through which you must pass have the Ten Commandments engraved on the lower portions of each of the doors.
  3. Right above where the Chief Justice sits when the court is convened there is a display of Moses and the Ten Commandments.

So why did the Supreme Court of the United States of America have to look to international law to make its decision in Lawrence v. Texas? Because there is no law in the Bible, or the Constitution, or stare decisis, where one can find a right to homosexual sodomy. Its just not there!

Texas v. Lawrence opened the floodgates of hell upon America by finding, somewhere in the penumbra (literally, shadow of the shadow) of the United States Constitution, a constitutional right to a sin that will bring death to those who practice it and death to a nation that approves of it. That's right! Texas v. Lawrence effectively did away with all federal, state, county, and city statutes forbidding homosexual sodomy. We have stroked the rat and we are being devoured by it. God help us!
