WAR IN THE UKRAINE
A Physical Manifestation of the Battle Between Two Seeds

I just listened to Dr James Dobson on the radio this morning, 15 December 2004, and heard Pastor Sunday, a Nigerian pastor in the Ukraine with over twenty thousand new Christians in his congregation, sharing about the plight of the Ukraine. I was stunned by the battle that is taking place in that part of old Communist Russia.

It is a battle that we are fighting here in the U.S. between the red states and the blue states. It is simply a different physical manifestation of the very same battle. It requires every person to choose - there is no middle ground. It is a battle over life and death. It is a battle over who is Lord and whose laws will reign. It is described in the Bible as the battle between two seeds Genesis 3:15. Philosophers of our day would call it the battle between two worldviews or the battle for the culture.

This battle actually began in heaven during Satan's rebellion and moved to the earth when he was cast out of heaven. The most succinct description of this battle is found in Revelation 12:7-12. Since that time, he (Satan) has been filled with fury, despising the very flesh of those holding to the testimony of Christ. He has been leading the whole world astray; then robbing, killing, and destroying.

How did he lead the world astray? He began with Eve in Genesis chapter three by calling God's Word into question, “Did God really say…?” Then he outright contradicted God's Word saying, “You surely will not die…” He has been doing it ever since. First he calls God's Word into question. Then he contradicts it.

Can you hear his whisper? Did God really say that abortion is murder? Did God really say that homosexuality is sin? Did God really say that Christ is the only truth and all others are false?

Eve was deceived by his smooth talk and chose to listen to the old liar. Adam, however, was not deceived. He knew better, but chose to sin anyway. So God placed a curse on all three and the world as we know it. To the serpent (Satan), God said, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring (seed) and hers (seed); he will crush your head, and you will strike his heal.” Genesis 3:15. This is the battle that the Ukraine is experiencing today!

Ever since the moment that curse was pronounced, there has been war between these two seeds – the seed of the serpent vs. the seed of the woman. This war has rampaged through the pages of the Bible and through the pages of history. It is a spiritual battle that manifests itself physically in myriads of different wars, slaughters, and murders. It will not end until Jesus ends it upon His return.

The seed of the serpent hates the seed of the woman with a supernatural hatred that defies description (note the utter hatred and contempt the blue states have toward the red). They cannot explain why they hate the “brain-dead” Christians who voted for Bush, but they do. They are striking the heel little knowing that one day their heads will be crushed by those standing forthrightly on the Gospel of Christ. Let it be sooner than later.

You see, Jesus Christ is the seed of the woman! He has overcome the seed of the serpent and crushed his head. Yes, the devil struck the Lord's heel when he nailed Him to a cross, but Jesus crushed Satan's head when He rose from the dead. It is Jesus that is despised by the world and the devil. Anyone who holds to Christ's Word is fair game for the devil. This is the battle, and it is now manifesting itself in the Ukraine.

God has been touching the hearts of hundreds of thousands of people in the Ukraine with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Spirit of the Lord has been unleashed there and “…where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17) The people long to be free from the godless lie of Communism the seed of the serpent. This lie has bruised the heel of the people of the Ukraine long enough. The seed of the woman now stands poised to crush the head of this lying serpent!

The people of the Ukraine are yearning for freedom. They turned out to vote in record numbers for a man by the name of Viktor A. Jushenko. Most believe that he won by a huge margin, yet Moscow “fixed” the election so that its puppet Viktor F. Janukovych was declared the winner.

Both the Parliament of the Ukraine and its Supreme Court agreed the elections had been “fixed.” They overturned the election results and are now preparing for a new election. Vladimir Putin, of the Soviet Union, is pulling out all the stops to make sure his Communist puppet Janukovych remains in office. The people of the Ukraine however, hundreds and thousands of them, have taken to the streets with their orange scarves in support of Jushenko. The amazing thing is that no buildings are being burned, no windows are being broken, no looting of local shops, no fighting in the squares – only praying, singing, Christ proclaiming Christians!

They leave the square cleaner than when they arrived. What constrains these people from going bonkers as we have seen so often in protests and celebrations here in the United States? The anti-war protester's leave every place their feet have trod looking like a war-zone. In Boston, the celebration for their beloved Red Sox left one dead, several hospitalized, and several more in jail. What constrains the people of the Ukraine? The Gospel of Christ!

They are marching for a man, Viktor A. Jushenko, who represents the seed of the woman. This seed threatens to crush the head of godless Communism. The Truth is setting them free. Therefore the seed of the serpent attempted to poison Jushenko with dioxin and kill him. Jushenko, however, miraculously survived this attempt on his life, but it has left his face blackened and deeply pock-marked. The scars one earns when standing for Christ!

The national media is certainly not reporting any of this, and neither are our “friends” at Fox News. They simply cannot see the huge implications of the spiritual battle that is taking place in the Ukraine. Before their very eyes is being played out the battle of the ages (the seed of the serpent vs. the seed of the woman), yet they can only see the politics of the parties involved. That is why we haven't been shown the people of the Ukraine kneeling in the streets every morning and every evening in prayer on behalf of their fledgling nation.

The media is a willing dupe in the hands of the seed of the serpent. It has no desire to represent the Truth – witness our recent Presidential election. The media hates Christ and all who stand on His Word. It seeks only to provide cover for the seed of the serpent. Why? So that you and I won't know the real truth about this battle and how it must be won.

Our media then, is in the streets. It is only there, as the theology of the church house becomes biography in the streets, that the real truth can be told. The people in the Ukraine are living out their faith in Christ in the streets. It is our duty now, to shout it from the rooftops!
