Passing the Cross of Christ to Future Generations

I know you saw this picture of our twin boys in last month's newsletter, but I'll bet you probably didn't notice that there was another brother in the picture. He is our youngest son, Jonathan. His little eyes are filled with wonder and pride as they are glued to his two big brothers. David and Jason's lives are sending a very powerful message to Jonathan. He wants to be just like them!

"Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway." Pr 8:34

Whether we realize it or not, our lives are being watched by the generations coming behind us. David and Jason realize it. They read their bibles every day. Before baseball games they pray together on the third base line. They stand up for Jesus at every opportunity, even when it will cost them. They are out to take this nation back for Christ. They are unashamed of the Gospel of Christ and their prayer is that all who see them will desire to do the same. Their little brother Jonathan is now reading his bible every day - just like his big brothers.

Daniel Michael of St. Louis is a living example of a father passing to his children the powerful Gospel of Christ at the very gates of hell. He and Angela have recently given their hearts to Christ and have covenanted to be in God's word every day. They are sending a powerful message to the next generation. How about you? What message is your life sending to the next generation?

2001 Bible Reading Schedule

Every year our Lord grants us the privilege of giving you a Bible Reading Schedule. Ilene Coventry, a member of our church when I was pastoring, has been making and updating these schedules for us for the past 15 years. Thousands of folks have shared that the Bible Reading Schedule has been a real blessing to them. With an investment of about 20 minutes a day, it enables you to read through the entire bible in one year. Our youngest, Abigail and Jonathan, are reading through the New Testament and it takes them about seven minutes a day.

"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6

The Hebrew word for "train" actually means "to touch the palate of." Hebrew mothers would chew their food very fine and take it and touch the palate of their child's mouth. This is how they would feed their small children - Gerber was not marketing baby food yet. In so doing they would create an appetite in their children for that kind of food.

In the same way, you and I must touch the palate of our children with God's Word and create in them an appetite for His marvelous fare. The best way to do this is to chew it up first. When they see mom and dad in the bible every day, chewing it up, it creates in them a desire to do the very same thing. This is the way we touch the palate of or train up our children in the way they should go. This is the way we pass the cross of Christ to the next generation. Join us in reading through the Bible this year. The eyes of the next generation are upon you (Hebrews 12:1-2).

It Takes A Village to Kill A Child! FDA Approval of RU486

To borrow a bit from the title of Hillary Clinton's (Planned Parenthood's?) book, It Takes a Village - to raise a child, we propose a far more real and horrifying truth. It takes a village to kill a child. That's right! With the malevolent activism of the abortion industry and its willing dupes (the media, the courts, police departments, governmental agencies, ad nauseam), coupled with the silent consent of the Church of Jesus Christ, one begins to realize that it really does take a village to kill a child.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has now actively joined hands with the one who has come to rob, kill, and destroy by approving, for the very first time in its history, a drug whose sole purpose is to kill little children. It takes a village to kill a child and our silence is deafening. Their blood is on our hands.

"… Any Israelite or any alien living in Israel who gives any of his children to Molech must be put to death … for by giving his children to Molech, he has defiled my sanctuary and profaned my holy name. If the people of the community close their eyes when that man gives one of his children to Molech … I will set my face against that man and his family and will cut off from their people both him and all who follow him in prostituting themselves to Molech." Leviticus 20:1-5

If we close our eyes to the slaughter of God's children by remaining silent, if we do not speak for those who cannot speak for themselves or act on their behalf, then we are as guilty as the one who offers his child on the altar of a false god. Their blood is on our hands. In God's eyes, it truly does take a village to kill a child and He holds us all accountable.

With the FDA's approval of the marketing of RU 486 in the United States of America, our young mothers will be subjected to chemical experimentation and our tiniest citizens subjected to chemical extermination. The abortion industry's never ending saga of seeking cleaner and quieter ways to kill children is reminiscent of another country's desire for a cleaner and quieter way to exterminate its citizens.

Nazi Germany sought and found its solution in a company by the name of I.G. Farben. This pharmaceutical company developed Zyklon B which was the gas used to exterminate Jews. Incredibly, I.G. Farben is the same company that developed our present day RU 486. Surprised? The name of that company today is Hoechst A.G. Its French affiliate is Roussel-Uclaf, the "RU" of RU 486.

As heinous as Zyklon B gas was in the days of Nazi Germany, RU 486 is even more heinous now, because we know better! As surely as God's judgment fell upon Nazi Germany for its murderous onslaught against the Jews, so it is falling upon our nation for our murderous onslaught against His pre-born children.

Physicians Dispensing RU 486 Will Be Exposed

I have heard a lot of political posturing on the part of pro-life politicians who say that they are going to make "parental notification" and "parental consent" laws apply to the dispensing of RU 486. They want your vote desperately and this is really about all they can do. We have a better way. We are going to take the battle for the lives of little pre-born children to the very gates of hell. We will allow our theology to move from the church house to become biography in the streets of our cities.

The way to fight and win the battle against RU 486 and the abortion industry is not found in the beltway of Washington, D.C., nor is it found in legislatures or courtrooms across this land. Not yet, at least. It is found in the Church of Jesus Christ when it moves against the gates of hell.

Our statement is a very simple one: "Any physician giving a young woman the recently FDA approved drug RU 486 will be exposed for the murderer he is! No doctor will be able to kill children in the privacy of his own practice without it being made known to the community at large. Christians in every city will go to the practice of such a physician with signs saying, 'Doctor _______ not only delivers babies--he also kills them!' If the doctor is not ashamed of what he is doing, we will be providing free advertising for him."

"Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible ..." Ephesians 5:11-13.

We have found that there is nothing better than the Light of the World to overcome the darkness in our land. Telling the truth about doctors who would prescribe such a terrible drug provides a powerful deterrent. Doctors know that abortion is a practice killer. It not only kills babies and destroys the souls of mothers and fathers, it ruins the lives and practices of doctors foolish enough to participate in it. When it becomes known in a community that a doctor is doing abortions, he can either go into the child-killing business full time or stop killing and maintain his own practice. There is no way he can do both.

Thanksgiving, A Day to Remember

We pray that before this Thanksgiving Day you will have an opportunity to read History of Plymouth Plantation by William Bradford. Mr. Bradford was the second governor of Plymouth and held that position for 50 years. This history was written in 1647 and was written for future generations that we might not forget the hardships and humiliations endured by the pilgrims for the cause of Christ. They viewed themselves as "stepping stones upon which future generations could stand." They lived their lives for the generations that would follow them and became the bedrock upon which our Christian liberty was founded. "… Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." 2 Corinthians 3:17. Internal liberty brings with it external liberty - thus America!

The internal liberty that Christ brings into a life results in external liberty in the life of a nation. Here are the words of Governor Bradford in the introduction to his book:

"… many became enlightened by the Word of God, and had their ignorance and sins discovered unto them, and began by his grace to reform their lives, and make conscience of their ways … many therefore of these professors as saw the evil of these things in these parts (England), and whose hearts the Lord had touched with heavenly zeal for his truth, they shook of this yoke of antichristian bondage, and as the Lord's free people, joined themselves (by a covenant of the Lord) into a church estate, in the fellowship of the Gospel, to walk in all his ways, make known or to be made known unto them, according to their best endeavors, whatsoever it should cost them, the Lord assisting them. And that it cost them something this ensuing history will declare."

Their lives, their exploits, and the Lord Jesus, who brought them safely across the Atlantic on the tiny Mayflower, have sent a powerful message to our generation. Our eyes should be upon them as the eyes of future generations shall be upon us.
