The
Supreme Court – an Appointment with Almighty God
We came from all points of our nation. We came with our faces low to the ground and our chins set like a flint. We would not be waylaid or detoured. Though threatened with arrest and buffeted by Capital Police at every turn, we were an army sent on a mission. God had called us to confront the Supreme Court of the United States of America with the Law of God. Yes, we came to our nation’s capital to storm the very gates of hell in the strong Name of Jesus. We had conducted Ecclesiastical Courts outside of federal court buildings in over forty different cities on September 25, and now we were in Washington, D.C., to do the same at our nation’s highest court. No longer would we sit idly by while our nation was being trashed and laid waste by unjust, unlawful decisions rendered by a Supreme Court that had become the long arm of the devil himself. This court had turned its back upon God, the Constitution, and the rich history and heritage passed to us by our Pilgrim forefathers and Founding Fathers. No longer would we wait for the Republican Party, the President, or the Congress to stand against the judicial tyranny savaging our culture and our nation. It was up to us. The revolution had begun! Who are we to confront the Supreme Court? We are simple Christian moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, sons and daughters, who have chosen to live out our faith in Christ in the streets of our cities. God has chosen the foolish things of this world to confound the wisdom of the wise. We have been bought by the blood of Christ and are no longer our own – we belong to Him. We are “living epistles” known and read by all men that God may reconcile all men to Himself. We have purposed in our hearts that the theology of the church house shall become biography in the streets, no matter the cost. We are those who believe that Christianity is lived best “out of the closet.” We were going up to the high places (the Supreme Court of the United States of America) to tear the devil’s kingdom down. What does the Bible say about the separation of church and state? The Bible tells us that when King David had committed adultery with Bathsheba, he had Uriah the Hittite (Bathsheba’s husband) killed in battle so that no one would know of this sin. He had done a good job covering up. Surely he could get away with this. No one would know. No one that is, but God. God demonstrates for us in this piece of Biblical history, the proper relationship that should exist between church and state. God knew exactly what David had done. Because God loved David, He confronted him with his sin. But how would God get His message to the wayward king? Who would dare take God’s message and confront the King of Israel?“Then the Lord sent Nathan to David…” 2 Samuel 12:1. This little verse tells us much. When the king was in sin, or when a nation is in sin, God will send a prophet. A prophet is one who steadfastly stands upon, and speaks, God’s Word. He must deliver God’s mail. The Church (the prophet Nathan) was called to confront the state (King David) with the Law of God! The Church is always called to be the conscience of a nation. No other entity on earth is ordained by God to do this. Nathan rebuked King David for his sin, the king was cut to the heart, and he repented before God of what he had done. The prophet Nathan was a faithful witness to the waywardness of the king and, as a result, the king was brought to repentance. In the same way the Church of Jesus Christ must prophetically become a faithful witness to the waywardness of America today. It is up to us to prick the very heart of America if we want to see her fulfill her God-given role among the nations. It is our duty as true Christian patriots. “Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing His plan to His servants the prophets.” Amos 3:7. As God sent Nathan to David, so God sent us, His Church, to our nation’s capital on October 6, 2003, to confront the Supreme Court of the United States of America with her sin. An earlier battle in Montgomery, Alabama In late August, several of us had heard the battle cry to come to Montgomery, Alabama. The enemy was coming in like a flood and God was raising up a standard to come against him. We ran to the roar standing side-by-side with Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice, Roy Moore and his Ten Commandments Monument. It was here that we met many new friends in this Gospel battle. Our hearts were knit together. The “Minutemen” from Ohio, the “yellow-shirted” Ohioans, and several others, whom God had prepared, were becoming mighty warriors for King Jesus. God was building an army in the Adullam’s Cave of Montgomery, Alabama. The battle that raged in Montgomery was a very visible manifestation of the battle between two seeds (Genesis 3:15) – the seed of the serpent vs the seed of the woman. It was and is a life or death struggle over who is Lord and whose laws reign. It requires every person to take a stand. There is no “wavering between two opinions,” “reaching across the aisle,” no compromise, no “middle ground.” It is either Christ and life, or anything else and death. Republicans and Conservatives need not apply. It soon became apparent in Montgomery that there were Christians who believed they could schmooze this battle by finding “common ground” with the serpent and attempting to unite Jews, Muslims, and Christians around the fact that we could all agree on the Ten Commandments – at least in principle. This, of course, was patently absurd, yet it is typical of the feminized “can’t we all just get along” sloppy agape of our day. There were others, however, who believed that the Ten Commandments pointed to Jesus and Jesus alone. These were the ones drawn to us. They knew that all Biblical law leads to Christ (Galatians 3:24, Romans 10:4). This, of course, is a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Gentiles. The Gospel of Christ divides (Luke 12:51-53). We were not seeking unity, we were seeking to crush the devil’s head in Jesus’ Name. Though the skirmish in Montgomery ultimately ended up with the temporary suspension of Chief Justice Moore - the revolution had begun! America had been turned upside down by satan’s murderous lies for years, but God’s Church would now turn it right side up again in the Name of Jesus. Montgomery marked the beginning of the Second American Revolution! Entering the battle in Washington, D.C., October 4-6, 2003 As soon as we arrived at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday evening, October 4, The Park Rangers informed us that there would be no mass meetings or readings from the Bible at the Memorial. Undaunted, we simply moved to the reflecting pool in the mall, had Curtis sound the shofar, and there began to proclaim the Name of Jesus. Visibly upset, the Rangers demanded our names, which we were more than happy to give. When one is crucified with Christ there is no fear in the face of intimidation. Rusty shared a great word from Luke 19:37-44 reminding us that if we remain silent at a time like this, the stones will cry out. The stones in Washington, D.C., are proclaiming the Lordship of Christ better than we “living epistles” who have been silenced by the “political correctness” of our day. We desire the world’s favor rather than God’s. We compromise His Law to appear kind. Compromise on the day of battle is not a virtue. We went to the Lincoln Memorial to remember the great failure of our nation to deal with the sin of slavery. Slavery was an issue that God would not allow America to overlook. God had sent His prophets (the Church) to confront the king (the state) with His message, but no one paid much attention. It was only after three years of brutal war and unceasing bloodshed that Abraham Lincoln realized that the great Civil War devastating our nation was a judgment from God Himself upon both North and South. He signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, believing that the sin of slavery was bringing untold devastation upon this nation. His Second Inaugural Address in January 1864 (inscribed in its entirety on the wall of the Lincoln Memorial) revealed his awareness of the judgment of Almighty God upon our nation because of the sin of slavery. There, at the reflecting pool, just beneath the Lincoln Memorial, we began to realize the great privilege and responsibility we (the church) had to deliver some long overdue mail from God Himself to the Supreme Court of the United States of America (the state). The weight of our duty before God minimized our fear of man. Our nation’s first President met us at his monument On Sunday morning we met for worship under the shadow of the magnificent Washington Monument. It was 7:30 a.m. and, once again, we were met by federal marshals and park rangers reminding us that there would be no mass meetings or Bible readings anywhere near the monument. For whatever reason, the Bible, and those who read it and believe it, are viewed as hostile to America. None other than George Washington himself met us there – well, almost. He was dressed in full military regalia with his Bible in one hand and his prayer book in the other. He knelt and prayed with us from several of his own prayers written in his journal. It was amazing to hear how many times President Washington mentioned the specific Name of Jesus in his prayers. He also demonstrated for us what he did when taking his oath of office as our nation’s first President. He took the Bible and opened it to Deuteronomy 28:1 and read aloud. He then bent over and kissed his open Bible.
President Washington was asked to leave the premises of “his monument.” The ever-vigilant park rangers and federal marshals were tiffed that he would commit such a seditious act by opening a Bible. It was a very telling scene. Everyone carrying a Bible was then asked to leave the Washington Monument. Our next foray was to the “Red Mass” at St. Matthews Cathedral where the Supreme Court Justices are prayed over before the beginning of the 2003-2004 Supreme Court session. Justice Antonin Scalia was the only one we knew for sure was there. Six gentle Christian warriors from the Christian Defense Coalition were arrested for holding signs of the Ten Commandments and pictures of aborted children on the public sidewalk. They were held on a $300 bond. Pat Mahoney refused the bond. They were then released on a $25 bond. God is good! The praising, praying, proclaiming Church of Jesus Christ outside the “Red Mass” was awesome! When the Church moves into the streets of the city, all hell breaks loose and all heaven comes down. When the sharp double-edged sword of the Spirit is withdrawn from its sheath it does its awful, yet magnificent work. Hundreds of Christians, singing the high praises of God with Brother Butch leading us, and the shofars blasting out the battle cry, and the Name of Jesus being lifted high, was a sight to behold. We could visibly see the hearts and minds of God’s people being prepared for the Gospel battle at the Supreme Court. From the “Red Mass” we went to the Holocaust Museum to witness another failure by the Church of Jesus Christ to combat the devil’s lie. This time it manifested itself in the form of Nazi fascism. Over 7 million Jews, Gypsies, and handicapped were butchered at the hands of a government that had been infiltrated by the lie of the devil. The Christian Church (church) in Nazi Germany made peace with an enemy (the state) when it should have been at war. Called to warn and protect, the Church tolerated, then submitted, and then saluted the broken cross. Millions died because Germany had no prophetic voice - the salt had lost its savor! Storming the gates of hell at the United States Supreme Court On Monday morning, at 9am we joined 600-700 other gentle Christian brothers and sisters at the steps of the Supreme Court building. The speakers spoke well of the Word of God and of its crucial importance to our nation today. They would not, however, confront this court with its sin. They did not take the Sword of the Spirit out of its sheath- they just talked about it. “…They strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one turns from his wickedness…” Jeremiah 23:14.
In contrast, at 11:30am the Word of God, the sharp double-edged sword of the Spirit, was taken out of its sheath and wielded in the hands of gentle Christian warriors to expose the sin perpetrated by this court. It was wielded that repentance could be brought and healing begun. Six rulings were cited as abominations before God as the Church of Jesus Christ now fulfilled her Biblical responsibility to confront the Supreme Court (the state) with its sin against Almighty God. This was a visible representation of the proper relationship that should exist between church and state. “But if they had stood in My council, they would have proclaimed My words to My people and would have turned them from their evil ways and from their evil deeds.” Jeremiah 23:22. At 9:00am, there were only a few Supreme Court police guarding the front steps of the Supreme Court. At 11:30 am there were Federal Marshals, Capital Police, Supreme Court Police, and a bevy of others that had gathered around a much smaller group of Christians who were going to conduct the Ecclesiastical Court. A rather telling sign of which group was considered most dangerous by the state don’t you think? More on a “Tale of Two Churches” will be written in next month’s newsletter. Christian Historian David Gregg states, “Give our country men who fear God and God only, and who live perpetually in His sight, and who feel that God has commissioned them to carry on reform and incorporate Christ into the national life, and you give it the men who become heroes of the country. They are the men of courage…America needs Christ – the rule of Christ, the truth of Christ, the Spirit of Christ, the gospel of Christ, and the men of Christ.” Will we be those men who love our country enough to confront her with the Law of Christ in order that she and her inhabitants might be saved? Keep pressing the gates of hell, Flip
