Partial Birth Abortion Ban- Bogus Piece of Legislation

PRESS RELEASE

Operation Rescue / Operation Save America

Partial Birth Abortion Ban- Bogus Piece of Legislation

“The devil himself would have signed this bill,” said Rev. Flip Benham, National Director of Operation Save America/ Operation Rescue. “This piece of legislation will not save the life of one child for the following reasons:”

  1. They will simply change the procedures. Case in point: Late term abortionist George Tiller of Wichita, Ks changed his late term procedure in 1999. He now offers “other types” of late term procedures. In 2002, 1,112 children were murdered in the state of Kansas who were 17 weeks or older and none were performed by the procedure that was banned.
  2. Nobody is going to police this. The Health Department, IRS, Social services, and local police departments rarely, if ever, scrutinize the activities of the abortion industry. It will not be enforced.
  3. The legislation becomes a disaster for the pro-life community. By acknowledging the cruelty of one procedure performed on older children, versus the cruelty of other procedures, performed on younger, the bill makes an unbiblical and immoral distinction and leaves the pro-life argument without Biblical foundation. The child 2 seconds old in the womb is of the same value to God and mankind, as a child 8 months in the womb. God makes no distinction, neither should we.

This bill offers the pro-life community something sweet from the Republican Party that we Pro-life folks are expected to accept and celebrate. We are left with no choice but to be thankful to our “stalwart” Republican legislators for its passage. But it is difficult to rejoice knowing that the law itself will not save the life of a single child. It also muddies the waters between those who are truly pro-life and those who are pro-choice. Many in the pro-choice community voted for this legislation do to the horrific nature of the procedure, but still maintain that it is a mother’s right to choose to kill her child.

President Bush signed the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban into law today. He signed it knowing full well that it was more a public relations ploy than a meaningful piece of legislation. He said, “I don’t think the culture has changed to the extent that the American people, or the Congress would totally ban abortion.” Who is waiting for the culture to change before we do what is right? Try that on the issue of slavery? Therefore our position remains: we are not beholding to the President, the Congress, the Supreme Court, or the Republican Party, but solely to God, His Word, and His love for voiceless pre-born children.
