Monday, July 18, 2005, OSA Denver Report

Monday, July 18, 2005, OSA Denver Report
by Brenda Spurlock and Dorothy Boyett

The day began at 5:30 a.m. as the overpass Truth Team led by Ken Scott set up large banners and abortion signs on Interstate 25 with the message: What kind of city - What kind of nation would allow this? Local radio and TV stations reported on the demonstration, citing driver's interest in OSA banners for the going-to-work traffic stack-up.

It was erroneously reported in today's Denver Post that Operation Save America launched our national event by “denouncing nearly everyone - Jews, Muslims, Episcopalians, gays, lesbians, even Focus on the Family.” Although the media is notoriously anti-Christian, this is the most blatant bigotry we've experienced to date.

OSA gathers on State Capital steps

In 1967, Colorado was the first state in the nation to decriminalize abortion, so it was appropriate that OSA Christians gathered this morning on the steps of the State Capital Building to memorialize all the little unborn boys and girls who have been killed by abortion. We watched breathlessly as fifty white doves were released, representing the approximately 50 million unborn babies who have been slaughtered in the name of “choice” and “convenience.” They circled and then circled again in the morning air before flying off in graceful formation. Denver pastors led God's people in prayers of repentance for our failure to prevent this holocaust.

50 white doves released over Capital

From the State Capital Building, Saints walked two miles to the Courthouse carrying large baby posters through the fashionable 16th Street Mall in down town Denver. Mall pedestrians mostly refused offers of pamphlets. Hostility was subtle although there were a few vitriolic outbursts. One young man rushed out of a doorway and spat at the abortion sign that Cal Zastrow held, shouting, “This kind of behavior shouldn't be allowed in front of children!” His second round of sputum barely missed Cal 's two young sons.

OSA Christians ministered to practical and spiritual needs of a young homeless couple. Diane from Montana reported on her Divine Appointment with Alex, a young man who had lost his father as a teenager, and who was searching for God. The way they met and the things they had in common, which led to easy conversation about eternal matters, all revealed the hand of God.
