Fetal Pain Bill: A Christian Response

It is not okay to kill babies with the grandparent's consent, or to wait 24 hours and then kill them, or to alleviate their pain and kill them. These are bogus pieces of legislation designed to make people feel good. They may end some abortions but not abortion. It is time for our government to take its hand of approval off of killing the unborn. Christians have got to unsheathe the sword of spirit and stop playing games, stop making bargains on ways to kill the unborn. The men and women of God must stand on the principles of God.

Dear Friends:
Right now there is a bill before Congress, introduced in the Senate by Sam Brownback (R-Kansas) and Chris Smith (R-New Jersey), dubbed the "Fetal Pain Bill" that has been supported by well-meaning Christians. Some of the groups supporting this bill are the Southern Baptist Convention, The US Conference of Bishops, National Right to Life, Concerned Women for America, Family Research Council!! Please understand: I do not doubt their integrity, or motives, however, I find myself in the unenviable position of not being able to support or even having the option to stay silent regarding this bill.

Let me be really clear about this: It is not God's will that Christian spend endless hours trying to get women to give anesthesia to their children before they kill them! I believe with my whole heart this is an assault by the enemy to use Christians to push a bill that will help kill children. What an attack on God -- that we are so spiritually blind and have so little spiritual discernment we can't see that this bill is in opposition to the will of God!

Folks, the issue is NOT if it hurts a baby to kill it. The issue is and ALWAYS has been, that abortion KILLS a baby. The reason it is wrong is not because it may hurt the baby or because your Pastor says its wrong, but because GOD says, "THOU SHALL NOT MURDER!"

As well-intentioned as this bill is, it will not stop a woman from having an abortion. In fact, it will have the opposite effect! Abortion clinics will be quick to market "painless" abortions to put a mother's heart at ease. You can easily imagine the spiel, "You will just be letting your child go back to God, the baby won't suffer at all, it will drift off to sleep and wake in the arms of God…" Cloaking the issue of the morality of abortion by changing the focus from death to pain is a ploy that Satan will use to trick and deceive women. It worked for Satan before when the focus was changed from killing a baby into a woman's right to choose. Wrapping evil in the guise of kindness is a hallmark of Satan "..even the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel." Proverbs 12:9-10. (Apparently the ploy works well on Christians too, judging by the number of pro-family Christian groups who have signed onto supporting this mockery.)

This bill will help abortion clinics to prey on women who are wavering on their decision. Lots of late term abortions are done because of perceived problems with the baby. Letting the mother know her loved but deformed child will not suffer will make it easier – not harder to have the abortion. We do not need kinder, gentler abortions!

We can't afford to stay silent about this bill, just because our friends are advancing it. Real lives are at stake, souls of women hang in the balance! This bill does not advance the cause of life, it cheapens it. Giving women a way to feel good about murdering their child is NOT in their best interest! Women deserve better than this bill! I urge you to call your Senator and Representatives and urge them to vote against this bill. Tell them you are pro-life and YOU OPPOSE this bill. The Capital Switchboard is: 202-225-3121.
