March 28, 2001 James Kopp's Arrest: A Response from Operation Rescue The apprehension of James Kopp, the alleged murderer of child-killer Barnett Slepian, in Paris today, will bring with it the expected media hype. The media will attempt to paint every Christian, who loves life and lives out that belief in the streets of their cities, as wild-eyed, lunatic, fanatics bent on shooting abortionists and blowing up abortion mills. "Nothing could be further from the truth," said Rev. Flip Benham, National Director of Operation Rescue, "Nevertheless, James Kopp will be the abortion industry's trophy and the media tool to brand all pro-lifers as violent. It doesn't matter whether Mr. Kopp is innocent or guilty. He is just another human tool to be savaged by the abortion industry to promote its murderous ends." On November 5, 1998 Operation Rescue held a press conference outside a local abortion mill in Dallas, Texas, asking Mr. Kopp to turn himself in to the authorities. The reason was simple. The abortion industry is deflecting the violence it does to mothers and their children and laying it upon pro-lifers. Why? Abortion is preeminently a Gospel issue and it is being won as simple Christians live out their faith in the streets of our cities. The industry wants us off the streets! The number of children being killed by abortion in our nation has dropped by more than 40% since 1991. The number of abortionists killing children has dropped by an almost equal amount since 1991. This despite having the most pro-abortion president in our nation's history. William Jefferson Clinton did everything the abortion industry desired sans building an abortion mill in the west wing of the White House. His Attorney General Janet Reno, did all she could to silence the voice of Christians outside abortion mills. But they could not stop the Gospel of Christ. The battle for the lives of children is being won in the streets and the abortion industry knows it. Therefore, the abortion industry and its faithful lapdog the media, do all in their power to silence the voices of gentle Christians at local abortion mills in a different way. They use a very strategic weapon when dealing with Christians. It is called - SHAME! Yes, they use the violence of one to silence the voice of many.
