Absolute or Relative

Absolute or Relative
by Becky Puckett
March 8, 2003

God is absolute and His moral law is absolute. Absolute means His law is objective and not subjective. It means His moral law is universal. His moral law is the same for all people, all places and all times. There are not many truths but one absolute truth. It is absolutely true that homosexuality is a sin and will remain so for all people in all places and at all times. Leviticus 18 states: Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.” Moral law and natural law support this truth . “Since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” Romans 1:20. It is absolutely true that abortion is murder. We are created in the image of God and life is sacred. “You shall not murder.” Ex. 20:13 . It is absolutely true that Islam is a lie. Islam says that Allah is God and Jesus is not God. Yet Jesus said “I tell you the truth before Abraham was born, I am!” That is the name God used for Himself when He spoke to Moses from the burning bush. Jesus is God and He clearly said “I am the way, the truth and the life.” John 14:6.

One of the questions we have been asked over and over during our “God is Going Back to School” campaign is, “What can you say out here on the sidewalk that you cannot say inside the school building?” What we can say is “God is absolute and His moral law is absolute for all people, in all places and at all times.” God and His law have been banned from our public schools. When we remove this standard, each man does what is right in his own eyes. We are here to lift up God's standard that His truth may be made known. “You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” John 8:32.

I have had several phone calls today concerning these truths. Some have been mocking and abusive and others have been very productive conversations. Some asked very good questions about God, His love and His law. They listened very intently and I believe were considering the truths they were hearing from the Word of God. I also received a call from the head of the Parent Teacher Student Association at North Mecklenburg High School in North Carolina . She wanted to agree with our message, but did not want us to take it so far as to show the truth of abortion through graphic pictures. She quickly ended our conversation when I pointed out that we are more offended by a picture of abortion than we are by the act of abortion. I told her that if seeing this truth before our eyes would motivate us to do something to stop abortion rather than ignore it, then we should look upon this horrible truth and not forget. She quickly made a wrong judgment about my motive and heart and hung up on me. Ma'am, if you are reading this, please know that what would please me greatly would be for us to see our sin before Almighty God, confess our sin and turn from our wicked ways that He might forgive us of our sin and heal our land.
