During this week's "God is Going Back to School" campaign some misinformation about OSA's message was spread in South Rowan High School in Rowan County, North Carolina. A number of students have written seeking the truth. Below is one such email and a response. South Rowan High School student writes OSA HI I ATTEND SOUTH ROWAN HIGH SCHOOL AND THIS PAST WEEK YA'LL HAVE BEEN OUT FRONT EVERY MORNING ... SOME KIDS WERE SAYIN THAT YALL SAID THAT PUBLIC SCHOOLS WERE A GATEWAY TO HELL AND ALSO THAT PEOLE WHO WORE BLACK WAS GONNA GO TO HELL ...... I DIDNT HEAR THIS FROM YALL OBVIOUSLY THEREFOR I WOULDNT BE WRITIN BUT I WAS WONDERING DID YALL REALLY SAY IT OR WAS IT JUST SOME RUMOUR SOME OF THE KIDS STARTED ... IF YALL DID SAY IT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY YOU THINK THAT ... THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME ~JESSICA~ OSA Response Wednesday, September 15, 2004 Dear Jessica, Operation Save America (OSA) Director, Flip Benham, responded by saying, "Our own people were in front of your school today dressed in 'Intolerant' T-shirts that are black with white lettering. If we had said those wearing black were going to hell, that would have been a wrong judgment and a lie. Of course, we didn't say it!" The "gates of hell" is not an original term with OSA. Martin Luther, father of the 16th century Reformation that produced Protestantism, said, "I am very much afraid that schools will prove to be the great gates of hell, unless they diligently labor in explaining the Holy Scriptures, engraving them in the hearts of youth. I advise no one to place his child where the scriptures do not reign paramount..." In America, a series of evil decisions by the Supreme Court led to exactly what Martin Luther feared. The Engle vs. Vitale (1962) decision silenced prayer in public schools. Abington vs. Schempp (1963) removed the Bible from schools. Stone vs. Graham (1980) removed the Ten Commandments from public schools. Public schools have indeed become gates of hell in their mantra demanding tolerance for any religion, except Christianity, and any life style no matter how vile. That they are the gates of hell, is proved most wrenchingly each time the tragedy of another Columbine or Jonesboro takes place. It is our duty and privilege to take God back to school. Jessica, we invite you to read the articles concerning our visit to your school at http//:www.operationsaveamerica.com. Thank you for writing. Please feel free to write again any time. Sincerely,
