The Least Among Us

The Least Among Us

Below is an excerpt taken from a letter to pastors written by Mike Warren from Rochester, NY. This is a great statement concerning who we have become in America. - Flip

"The moral test of a government is how that government treats those who are at the dawn of life -- the children; the twilight of life -- the elderly; the shadows of life -- the sick, the needy, the handicapped." Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey, 1977

Vice President Humphrey was actually paraphrasing a portion of Matthew 25, “Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

Unborn children, their parents, and the very fabric of our institutions are being savaged by a mindset of “death as a solution.” The philosophy of utilitarianism shouts, “To defend and provide for the least among us is too costly for us, and useless for them.”

Instead of defending and aiding the least among us, many of our nation's courts, many of our politicians, much of our media messaging, and in some cases our church pulpits, echo the falsehood that some lives are better off not being lived. This cheapens life for all of us. America has been measured and our embrace of death in abortion and euthanasia finds us falling short of the ideals and principles that made us a haven and a refuge for the oppressed.
