April 7, 1996 Why all the talk about Jesus? The word of God is the standard by which we should live. Without divine guidance, man will create his own version of what is good and evil. This is where we are today in the United States as a direct result of taking prayer out of school, God out of our government, and placing Man in the center of the universe. Man makes all the decisions on right and wrong based upon a limited human understanding. But if you doubt the existence of an all powerful God, let me give you some things to think about that will appeal to human logic. The top one hundred scientist from around the world that study the origin of the universe agree on two points. The first is that the universe has not existed forever. It had a starting point in time. At some future time, all the energy coming from the stars will be distributed equally throughout the universe. This is a basic law of thermodynamics. Let a simple example illustrate this important principal. Take a glass of ice water that is near freezing and set it next to a glass of hot water that is almost boiling. The next day, what will be the temperature in both glasses of water? The answer is that they will both be the same, very close to room temperature. The law of thermodynamics indicates that someday there will not be hot nor cold spots within the universe. All matter will be the same temperature just like the two glasses of water. This is proof that the universe has not existed forever like some theories claim. The second point of agreement is that an outside supernatural force created some "spark" of energy that began the universe. An energy source or a force outside the known universe has to be introduced to explain the origin of the universe. It makes sense that something (matter) cannot be created from nothing (empty space). There is a third point that 85 percent of the top 100 scientists agree on. It is that the supernatural force had to be an intelligent life force. For the many parts of an atom to exist, the relationships between atoms to form molecules, the different way molecules react with other molecules, all the way up to the galaxies that are rotating through the universe, this universe had to be started with a supernatural intelligent force far beyond our understanding. The other 15 percent still leave open the possibility of a random source of power starting the entire universe and establishing all the known physical laws. If you agree with the top scientists that the universe had a starting point, then you must agree that the human race had a starting point. Darwin stated the theory that all life evolved from some elements randomly getting together to create a life form. The simple life form evolved and changed over millions of years into higher forms of life. In his research he noted that his theory had one large flaw - that with all the scientific research on insects, plants, fish and animals, there was not one piece of scientific evidence that indicated one type of life form had ever evolved into another form of life. Throughout all the fossil records, a simple plant had the same structure thousands of years ago that it does today. He thought this very strange indeed since there are thousands of different insects, varieties of fishes, and plant life, and yet no scientific evidence of a transition from one life form to another. Something else to think about is a research performed more recently. At a well known eastern college in the United States, a class of graduate students made a semester project to determine the probability of a human evolving by chance. They quickly realized that the human body has hundreds of different types of cells with complexity that they could not deal with in one semester. They singled out one type of protein cell within the body that had been well documented. They were able to make a mathematical model of the protein cell which required considerable effort in itself. Then, they began to calculate the probability of that protein cell coming into existence through evolution. Given all the different types of circumstances that could happened - just the right temperature and just the right elements in just the right spots. They assumed an infinite number of earth type planets with an infinite number of years for this to happen. Their mathematical calculations showed that a single protein cell, one of the simpler cells in the human body, could never have happened by itself. It had to be created by an intelligent force. There are many more examples that prove that there is an intelligence far beyond what we can understand. The way the earth rotates 365 times exactly in a year and is tilted for seasons. The complex structure of the simplest plant life. Even one atom has many parts that function as a whole. It takes more faith to believe that the universe just happened and that the human race started without a creator than it does to believe in a creator. For you to wonder if there is a God means that you understand very little about physics or about the chemical reactions taking place or about how the human body is constructed. Scientists have studied these subjects for centuries, but from what they have discovered and written in their journals, they have only scratched the surface in understanding how and why things are the way they are. With the age of the electron microscope, there are very few scientists that believe everything started and evolved by chance. Once a person has a basic understanding of the complexity of the universe and realizes that everything from the sub-atomic particles to the largest galaxy was created by a master intelligence, then they begin to understand why we bring God into our conversations about abortion. Once you realize this universe is not an accident, you will want to find out more about the creator by reading His word. While reading the Word, you will discover that His son, Jesus, died on a cross for each one of us. It is only because of Jesus that we are on the streets trying to reach women before they have an abortion. Without Jesus, we have no reason to be there. Without Jesus, none of us would be alive today. |
