Miss Norma26 December 1995 What impact has Norma McCorvey's conversion had in the ongoing battle for the lives of little preborn children? According to spokes-persons in the pro-abortion movement this change in Norma is simply a small blip on the radar screen. Sarah Weddington, the lead lawyer who argued Roe vs. Wade in the Supreme Court, said, "All Norma McCorvey did was sign an affidavit. She was a bit player in a class action suit that gave all women the right to choose, the right to control their own bodies. This is a case about Jane Roe, not about Norma McCorvey." Sarah Weddington's comments are revealing. She was always embarrassed of this drug addicted, uneducated, alcoholic, lesbian, carnival barker from the wrong side of the tracks. The Vassar girls of the "pro-choice" movement" always had their snoots so high in the air they never had time for the huddled masses or a precious young lady like Norma. Like their predecessor Margaret Sanger, they saw only a cause and never a person. We see Norma's conversion to Christ differently. Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote a little book entitled, "Uncle Tom's Cabin". This book shed light on the horrors of slavery and gave credence to the humanity of our black brothers and sisters. It moved the heart of our nation back to God and to the fact that we were our brother's keeper. In the same way Norma McCorvey's conversion sheds light on the horrors of abortion and gives credence to the lives of little baby boys and girls waiting to be born. It gives insight into the intolerance, duplicity and manipulation with the higher-ups of the "pro-choice movement. Those who have been screaming intolerance most have been found to be the most intolerant of all! The "pro-choice" movement is most concerned about its cause and the mythical Jane Roe. God is concerned about the person and the flesh and bones of Norma McCorvey. This is what Miss Norma found so attractive about Christianity. Somebody really cared about her no matter how sordid her past. Jesus is truly the friend of sinners. Norma's conversion to Christ did not happen in an instant. Our God has been dealing with her for years. Twenty-five years ago she chose death when she met Sarah Weddington at Columbo's Pizza in Dallas, Texas. What began in that pizza parlor in 1970 and ultimately became Roe vs. Wade on January 22, 1973, has now swung full circle back to Dallas. Norma was once again faced with a choice. This time she chose life and is safely in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. |
