Precious brothers and sisters,
Ross Perot is hosting a Presidential Candidates Forum at the Dallas Convention Center August 11-13. On Saturday, August 12 at 8:00 a.m. we will ensure that each candidate deals with the issue of our century -- the murder of preborn children. We are asking presidential candidates to join us at a local abortion mill and tell the truth about where they stand on the paramount issue of our day -- LIFE. So far two candidates have said they would join us. If you are close to Dallas come and help us raise up a standard for the children. JESUS IS THE STANDARD!
Be encouraged with these words shared with us over the telephone by Dr. Alan Keyes on Friday night, July 14th as he addressed those gathered in Little Rock, Arkansas preparing to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the very "gates of hell".
"I feel humbled, really, to be speaking to all of you today. I think that those of us who are doing our best in our speaking, in our talking, in our work and public life to move the conscience of this country, are really living off the spiritual life and courage that folks in the Operation Rescue movement around the country have shown for years...
Very often an issue can be terribly vital to the future of a country. It can be a great challenge to the conscience of the people, but most people will go through their ordinary lives and never realize how important it is. Yet, when they see fellow citizens and fellow Americans with the courage and willingness to put themselves on the line -- who stand out there in a public way to bear witness and testimony to the truth -- it can really move the conscience of the people in that nation...
The example of courage that is shown by the folks in Operation Rescue is an inspiration to all of us ... I think the abortion issue poses the most serious threat to the Republic that we have faced since the days of slavery. Therefore it is necessary for all of us who care about right, who care about justice, who respect the will of God and care about the future of America, to join together and do everything we can to shake the conscience of this country...
The work all of you are doing in bringing to the fore and dramatizing for the heart and conscience of America the real meaning of this issue, is watering the ground and fertilizing the soil in which all of us, who are part of the pro-life movement work. I thank God for you. I pray for you every day, for your courage, your will and your sacrifice. It is because I know that you are a special chosen few from God, intended to be the vanguard of this country's restoration and spiritual renewal which I have hope is going on, is beginning today... a beginning, in part, because you have been there over the years in the heart of our spirit, to whisper God's voice in our ear, not only in your words but in your deeds. I thank Him for you."
With these words ringing in our hearts and the love of God and our neighbor compelling us, we brought our theology to the streets of Little Rock and allowed the Word of God to become flesh. Three of the four abortion mills closed their doors. Local newspapers, TV stations, and talk radio airwaves were filled with the Gospel of Christ. The Truth was being told and lived out. Children in their mother's wombs were given a defense. Little Rock was once again a safer place for little baby boys and girls to be alive. It is our prayer that it remain this way as the Church of the Living God takes its rightful place at the "exposed places".
After our closing service at Victory Christian Fellowship on Sunday, a reporter from the Arkansas Democrat Gazette asked me, "If you believe that abortion really is a Gospel issue, why do you continue encouraging your people to become involved in government?" Her concept of the separation of church and state caused her to ask this question. For her and for most in America, church and state are two separate, never intersecting, entities.
It wasn't always this way.
For Christians with a biblical world view the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the foundation of good government. Our Founding Fathers knew this. The concept of a secular state was virtually non-existent in 1776 when the Declaration was signed and in 1787 when the Constitution was written. The American Republic was, and is, the political expression of Christian ideas.
"Our laws and our institutions must necessarily be based upon and embody the teachings of the Redeemer of mankind. It is impossible that it should be otherwise; and in this sense and to the extent our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian... This is a religious people. This is historically true... These and many other matters add to the volume of unofficial declarations that this is a Christian nation." Supreme Court Decision 1892 Church of Holy Trinity v. United States
"The moral principles and precepts contained in the Scriptures ought to form the basis of all our civil constitutions and laws." Noah Webster
The foundations of our nation are being destroyed and our history stolen from us. An enemy is doing this. Civilizations do not just die. They are first deceived ("you will be like God, knowing good and evil"); then they are destroyed by God.
What shall we do?
Rebuild the foundations! "They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore places long devastated; they will renew ruined cities... our descendents will be known among the nations and their offspring among the peoples. All who see them will acknowledge they are a people the Lord has blessed." (Isa 61: 4 9)
Nineteen ninety-six will be a watershed election year in the battle raging between two worldviews. "How long will you waiver between two opinions? If the Lord is God follow him; but if Baal is god, follow him." (I King 18:21)
In the nineteenth century this battle most clearly manifested itself over the issue of slavery. In the twentieth century it is most vividly manifesting itself over the issue of abortion. Child killing is the flashpoint of the battle. We will not compromise on this issue. There is no "middle ground". We do not have permission from God to use His children as political bargaining chips.
We will simply lay our lives down and, by our actions say that we love them all. You don't have to read our lips -- read our lives (and our vote).
