ORN January Newsletter 1996

27 January 1996

Precious brothers and sisters,

The anniversary of Roe v Wade was a sober yet awesome time this year - sober because we remember the more than 34 million babies that have been killed by abortion, but awesome because this is the first anniversary with Jane Roe wading in the fountain of life! Jane Roe is dead! Norma McCorvey is alive in Christ! God has proven again that the U.S. Supreme Court is not the "court of last resort." He reserves for Himself the final word in everything. I look forward to sending you pictures and stories next month of the wonderful events that took place on this year's Roe memorial weekend.

We are all excited about heading to Chicago for "Holy Week Passion for Life" April 1-6, 1996. Pastor Kirk Heldreth, Pastor Bonner, Joe Scheidler and many more are preparing the way for us to allow God's Word to become flesh in the "Chicagoland" area.

"In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps." (Proverbs 16:9)

Every time we have gone to a city during Holy Week, our God has done exceedingly abundantly above all we asked or imagined. In Birmingham, Rusty Thomas spoke a prophetic word at Tommy Tucker's abortion mill: "This abomination before Almighty God will be closed within thirty days." It was closed for good twenty-nine days later and Tommy Tucker has not done an abortion since. Tucker also killed children in Mississippi and Pastor Doug Lane just informed us that, through the faithfulness of Christians at local mills, the number of abortions in his state has been cut in half. Praise the Lord, the battle is being won!

Last year in New Orleans, the murder capital of our nation at the time, all seven abortion mills closed for the entire seven days we were there. The praising, worshipping Church of Jesus Christ came to the streets and the enemy fled. Not one murder occurred in the streets of New Orleans during Holy Week and the police are still talking to Pastor Bill Shanks about the miracle that took place in their city. The murder rate dropped fifty percent in the month of April and seventeen percent for the year of 1995. Praise the Lord, men are seeing our good works and giving praise to our Father in heaven!

This year we are going to Chicago to lift up the Name of Jesus, establish the truth, and provide little children a defense. Bring your family and join us! Train up your children in the way they should go. Teach them to fear nothing but God and allow them to witness for themselves what it means to follow hard after Christ. Some things are better caught than taught and there are some things that school simply cannot teach!

For those of you who have never been to a national event, these are wonderful times of refreshing in our Lord Jesus Christ. The teaching, preaching, praising, fellowship, and obedience to God's Word are a great encouragement to all who dare come. The ministry for our teens will be headed up by our faithful and fun Pastor Terry Gensmer. For those of you who know him, you know this is a great opportunity for your kids to be discipled by a tremendous man of God. For those of you who don't, you need to!

On Monday, April 1st from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. we will be having a leadership meeting with Joe Scheidler to strategize how we are to lift up Jesus as our Standard at both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions this summer. We will be sharing ideas and rejoicing in what God has done and will do. If you are a leader, you need to be with us. Call our office to confirm that you will be attending this meeting.

The saga of the trouble with our landlord at the Operation Rescue National headquarters has a new chapter. God has been working again on our behalf! Though the landlord has been trying to evict us, a judge has ordered that we be allowed to stay for three more months, rent-free and with no restrictions on counseling! We are grateful to our dedicated attorney, whose reward, like so many of you, is the joy of working to further the kingdom of God. Please remember us in your prayers as we seek new -and conveniently located (!) - office space.

In Christian love

THIS JUST CAME IN:

On January 11, 1996 Nancy Walker, a faithful, committed, and caring sidewalk counselor in Buffalo, New York was sentenced to 90 days in a Federal Prison. Her crime was sidewalk counseling.

Nancy was accused of seven violations of a federal injunction issued by Judge Richard J. Arcara on September 28, 1990. This injunction was originally issued to stop rescues in the Western New York area but has now become a tool to limit free speech, and the freedom to express Christian views and options to abortion.

Nancy was innocent of all charges against her, most of which were truly ludicrous. Two other counselors are facing similar charges, Eva Boldt and Phillis Walker (not related to Nancy).
