March 13, 1998 "OPERATION RESTORE LIBERTY"Operation Rescue National is demanding that the city of Lynchburg release its National Director Rev. Flip Benham. Rev. Benham was unjustly sentenced and thrown in jail 22 days ago stemming from a public proclamation held in Lynchburg, Virginia on Nov. 10. Rev. Benham is in the Lynchburg City Jail serving six months of a one-year sentence for misdemeanor trespass. All over this country, attorneys and law enforcement officials have called this sentence a travesty. Judge Richard S. Miller did not put Rev. Benham in jail for trespass, but rather jailed him for the Gospel message he brought to the city. "The case against Rev Benham illuminates how intolerant our justice system has become toward the Christian faith," said Randall Terry National Director of Loyal Opposition. "A double standard exists in America's court rooms. Had Rev. Benham been passing out condoms or had been expressing any other message he would not be in jail today." "We hope and pray that the Christian community in Lynchburg will join with us in speaking out against the unjust jailing of Rev. Benham" said Rev. Pat Mahoney National Director of Christian Defense Coalition. "We have come to Lynchburg to peacefully stand for religious liberty and first amendment rights." THERE IS A GENTLE REVOLUTION HAPPENING AND IT IS COMING TO LYNCHBURG VIRGINIA! EVENT: Operation Restore Liberty |
