PRESS CONFERENCE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ATTENTION ASSIGNMENT EDITOR 30 August 1999 Liberty University Student to be Jailed in Lynchburg, VAJohn Reyes, a student at Liberty University, will turn himself in today at the Lynchburg City Jail to begin serving a one year sentence (6 months suspended) for misdemeanor trespass at a local high school. John was one of over three hundred Liberty University students who went to E.C. Glass High School in November of 1998 to share the Gospel of Christ and the truth about abortion with the students there. Five E.C. Glass students gave their hearts to Christ that day. For this heinous act, all of the policeman at the scene testified to the peaceful and respectful deportment with which the Liberty students conducted themselves, John was given one of the most severe sentences a first time misdemeanor offender has ever been issued. Friends of John Reyes, including the National Director of Operation Rescue, Rev. Flip Benham, will join with their courageous brother in conducting a press conference in front of the Circuit Court building in Lynchburg. "It is our prayer that the city of Lynchburg will reconsider its draconian punishment of John Reyes." Said Rev. Flip Benham, "If the city is looking to send a message to anyone else who would dare take the Gospel to E.C. Glass, it has already done so through my own incarceration. John's actions certainly do not warrant six months in jail." EVENT: Press Conference DATE: Monday, August 30, 1999 TIME: 10:15 am PLACE: Circuit Court, 900 Court St., Lynchburg, Virginia FOR MORE INFORMATION: Rev. Richard Knodel (804) 610-8572
