McGlade Family - Bradenton, FL.

In April of 1989, our family answered a call by Almighty God to enter the abortion battle. My husband, Tom, was arrested, along with 114 brothers and sisters, including a number of local pastors, during a "rescue" at an abortion clinic in Venice, Florida. Ever since we (Tom and I) had given our hearts and lives to the Lord, we had promised to follow Him wherever He led; however, our lives were forever changed when He began to lead us to the very gates of hell. He literally grew us up in Him on the streets in front of abortion mills, Planned Parenthood clinics, porno shops, court houses, and in front of (not in) the public schools and churches across this country. Leading our family to expose the deeds of darkness and to lift up the Standard of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ to a lost society has sanctified our family and those who have stood with us.

We started out on the "battle field" with four children - Ryan (10), Keith (8), Rachel (5), and Eric (3). Although young. we were amazed that all of them were equal with us in compassion toward the innocent children being unjustly killed. They simply loved Jesus and wanted to follow Him where we were going - even if that meant getting arrested in order to save children. Immediately, the enemy rose up with his taunts and threats. Many times, we wondered if we were we really doing the right thing in taking our children to these "hellish" places? At one point, the state even threatened to take them away if we continued. However, amidst all of the loud jeering of the enemy, we could clearly hear that still small voice saying "this is the way walk ye in it." The Lord made it clear to us, that although He had entrusted them to us, they were His to raise; and if we would allow Him free reign, He would make them warriors for Him, fit for His kingdom. Our job was to go where He commanded us to go; and for a large part of our Christian lives, that was to the streets of this nation - to our "Jerusalem" first, then to the rest of the country.

In 1994, Tom and I adopted Jonathan (7) and Anthony (4). We had the privilege of working with the Lord as He took two broken and hurting little boys and transformed them into whole and healthy warriors for His kingdom. In there somewhere, He brought Joshua Michael Turk, then twelve, into our lives. God took a young man who had a heart after Him and placed young Josh in a family who was going where he was destined to go. Josh is awesome in the Lord! Not long ago, the Lord added to our family two wonderful daughters-in-law, Tanya and Mara; each love the Lord Jesus with all of their hearts and are determined to join with their husbands in raising families according to God's biblical plan. We now have three precious grandchildren (one in the womb), Josiah and Malachi and "little one," who are being raised as "arrows in the hands of a warrior." The army is growing!

It has forever been in our hearts to actually see the body of Christ operating through His people, His Church - the Church that the gates of hell will not prevail against. We have always considered our brothers and sisters in Operation Save America, our Church; and the leaders, our protective covering (even though we have always been a part of a local church). Their example of sacrifice and service to our King has eternally influenced all of our lives. Through them, we have gotten a glimpse of the true Church of Jesus Christ. However, to our amazement and joy, the Lord has blessed us even further than we could ever imagine. Three years ago, he began to birth in our home - a local body of believers who were determined to love Jesus with all of their hearts and to go wherever He led - even to the very gates of hell! I can't even begin to tell you what awesome things He has done. Most of our "family" are young warriors, most with young children; all of them are determined to allow the Lord to use them in any way He wills - to be living epistles to a dying world. We have no doctrine but the cross of Christ applied to our lives and to obey Him no matter what the cost. His Word is our lamp and guide. "One can put a thousand to flight" . . .We can't wait to see what the Lord can do through this small body dedicated to Him.

Since making the decision to follow the Lord to the "gates," Tom and I have had the awesome privilege of seeing Almighty God's faithfulness and power manifested through simple and weak human vessels. Many times, we wanted to shrink back because of our fears and inadaquacies; but He promised to be our strength and shield and to God be the glory - we have experienced first hand the "salvation of our Lord!" He has taught us that there is no safer place than in the center of His will - in that protective covering of the "secret place of the Most High." He never, NEVER, has failed us. Our Father will never allow His people to be but to shame whose hearts fear and obey Him. My soul doth magnify the Lord, my heart rejoices in God, my Savior!

All of our "children" love the Lord with all of their hearts. They have all been tried and tested for their faith and for standing up for the gospel of Jesus Christ; they have stood strong and pure. They have all determined in their hearts to wait for God's best in marriage and to walk in the Word of God's perspective for their lives, not giving in to the pressures of this world. It is our prayer that every one of them, goes farther than we have ever hoped to go in the Lord. We give all the glory to our Almighty Father in heaven, to our Faithful and True, Lord and King, Jesus Christ, and to the Power of His Holy Spirit. Read the following testimonies and magnify the Lord with us!

Mara McGlade - Bradenton, Fl., formerly Chicago, Il.
I was eight years old when my parents brought me to Philadelphia for my first Operation Rescue event. We stopped there on our way back home from our summer vacation. I can still remember seeing little bodies of unborn children that were found in garbage cans; then watching as hundreds of people laid down their lives to "rescue" the innocent. For the next few years my parents were carried off to jail time after time, answering the call that God had put on the Church to "rescue those who were led away to death." From our own city, Chicago, to places across the country, my family traveled to abortion clinics. I remember going to late night rallies, early morning prayer meetings, and hearing the most inspirational sermons; however, nothing changed my life as much as going to the abortion mills.

I was recently asked to tell how growing up in "rescue" has effected my life. To tell you the truth, I can't think of an area that it hasn't influenced. Being a part of such an awesome move of God like Operation Save America (formerly Operation Rescue); being surrounded by brothers and sisters who are not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, and having been under the teaching of such mighty men and women of God has had a major part in shaping me into the person that I am today. I count it such a privilege to have been able to grow up doing battle on the streets. I glorify the Lord that He allowed me to witness at such an early age the Church of God in action; and to experience, first hand, the gates of hell not prevailing when the people of God move forward. I praise His Holy name!!!.

Ryan McGlade (23) - Bradenton, Fl.
My name is Ryan McGlade, and I was asked to write a little about growing up as a rescuer. I was about ten years old when my family got involved with Operation Rescue. One of the first events that I participated in was in Atlanta, Georgia in 1990. We were with a group called Youth for America. It was a long time ago, but I still remember sitting in front of the abortion clinic door with a bunch of other kids, singing songs, and praying for the babies and praying that I wouldn't be so nervous. After a while, the police showed up with paddy wagons. About that time, I felt my prayer was answered.

Jonathan McGlade (15) - Bradenton, Fl.
Some people may think that children should not be involved in the abortion battle. But, I have found that not to be true. I have found that on the streets and at the "gates" are the very places that God wants us to be. In fact, I have found that being where God wants us to be is the best and safest place. In Psalms 23:5, the Bible tells us, "Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over." My parents have taught me that there is no big Holy Spirit or a little Holy Spirit. He is the same for adults and for children. As kids, we can experience God's presence right in the midst of our enemies - and God wills it so!

I am twenty-one now, but I can still envision my dad waving to me as he was hauled away in a police bus for "rescuing" at a local abortion clinic. The emotional display still lingers transparently in my mind. I was eight years old and proud of my dad. I may have been young, but I had a pretty decent grasp of the principles in which he was leading our family. It was simple for me; after all, we were Christians.

Anthony McGlade (13) - Bradenton, Fl.
My name is Anthony McGlade. I am thirteen years old. I was adopted when I was three and half years old into the McGlade family. Before I was adopted, I was not what you would call a nice little boy. I lied; I stole; I swore; I was completely disobedient! I was a mess! I didn't know right from wrong. But God saved me.

Eric McGlade (16), Bradenton, Fl.
I can't remember a time that we didn't go to the battlefield when the Lord called. I was raised to go to battle! My parents went - we went with them. I have seen their losses and how they handled them - through the grace of God. I have shared in their victories and rejoiced in God's glory. Their lives have been examples to me and through those examples, I have learned and grown. I am continually gaining wisdom from them and because of their sacrifices and in giving their lives to Christ, they have been blessed!
