Rev. Flip Benham 8/1/2007
Ante and Kathy Pavkovic, and their daughter Christan Sugar, appeared in Washington, D.C.’s Superior Court yesterday July 31, 2007. They were in court to answer for their actions at the chambers of the United States Senate on July 12, 2007. The three rose up in the Senate gallery and prayed in the Name of Jesus, quoting Scripture, to open the Senate session that day.
For two hundred and twenty years this time honored tradition has served our country well: “Blessed is the nation whose God is The Lord…” Psalm 33:12. Unfortunately, the foundations of our nation are being crushed under the weight of a ubiquitous lie called “political correctness.”
Harry Reid, Senator from Nevada, invited Hindu clergyman, Rajan Zed, to open the July 12th session of the senate with prayer to his false god (gods). There was no cry of outrage from the Senate floor. There was scarcely a senator to be found on the floor, though they all knew that Zed would be opening the session in prayer. None would dare challenge the “politically correct” dogma of tolerance. The senators stayed safely away!
While the United States Senators, by their cowardice and absence, bowed and kissed the face of this false religion, three gentle Christians rose to their feet to bring honor to Jesus and to the rich heritage of our Founding Fathers. The three were immediately arrested, put in jail, and later released on their own recognizance to appear in court July 31, 2007.
At their appearance in court yesterday, they were allowed to make no plea – only to promise to return for another court date. If they do not return to D.C., for this court date they may be fined up to $1,000 and confined to jail for a maximum of 180 days.
There was much bickering between the “unasked for” court appointed attorneys and the prosecutor over the scheduling of the next appearance. They simply could not come into agreement. Finally they settled on a date.
Those who stood in the Senate chambers to proclaim the Name of the one true God, Jesus, were asked to return to court for their hearing on September 11, 2007. That’s right! 9-11!
“The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord; He directs it like a watercourse wherever He pleases.” Proverbs 21:1.
It should not go unnoticed that on this date six years earlier, an airplane, United Flight #93, was commandeered by Islamic terrorists and targeted to slam into our nation’s Capitol. It was the bravery of one young Christian man, Todd Beamer, and several other passengers on that airplane that averted a disaster of catastrophic proportions. Todd prayed the Lord’s Prayer in Jesus’ Name (not in the name(s) of the pantheon of Hindu gods) and laid his life down that our forgetful congressmen might live.
It was the courage of three gentle Christians, who will be appearing in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia on this date (6 years later), that should spur us all on to honor the God of our fathers and the God of Todd Beamer - Jesus.
