Bill Hewitt with Foreword by Rev. Flip Benham 9/14/2007
Our good friends Bill and Patsy Hewitt have just been served a “Temporary Restraining Order” (TRO) issued by the Circuit Court for Smith County, Tennessee at Carthage. This (TRO) prevents Bill and Patsy from “…coming on or near Smith County Board of Education property or making contact with its employees, representatives, students or caregivers...” Evidently the Smith County Board of Education had had enough of Bill and Patsy proclaiming the Gospel of Christ by passing out literature to the parents of students entering its schools.
Bill and Patsy never violated any law. The police were on the scene. Their venue was always the public sidewalk outside the schools. The vast majority of parents were very thankful that Bill and Patsy were there and received the literature gladly. The only ones incensed were the administrators. They didn’t like the message!
One would never believe that in small, scenic Smith County, just east of Nashville, Tennessee, gentle Christians would be persecuted for their faith. Yet, this picturesque oasis in the Bible-Belt seems to want nothing to do with the Bible or those who believe it to be true! At least not those in charge of the Smith county schools.
The officials of Smith County are attempting to have the courts establish “Gospel Free Bubble Zones” around “their” schools. Christians like Bill and Patsy Hewitt, who live out their faith in the streets, are considered enemies of “their”state. If not swiftly dealt with, these “Gospel Free Bubble Zones” will spread throughout the nation, criminalizing the Gospel and those who bring its message to our nation’s schools.
Remember, neither Bill nor Patsy was arrested for anything! They abided by the law and remained on the public sidewalk, handing out pamphlets to students passing by. Rick Nelson of the American Liberties Institute has graciously agreed to represent the Hewitt’s as this goes to court. Keep checking our site; we may be heading to Smith County to stand with the Hewitt’s at the gates of the government schools!
We may be called to help them finish the work in Jesus magnificent Name!
Below a report from the Hewitt’s before they received the (TRO).
My wife Patsy and I settled in Smith County, TN back in 1993 after I had retired from Federal Express. We were drawn there by the beautiful landscape of rolling hills, farms, and the Cumberland River. Not long after we moved into our old farm, we met Jeff and Michelle Herzog, a godly couple who were used of the Lord to challenge us in bringing the Gospel to an abortion facility in Nashville, TN.
This past June, Patsy and I helped plan a conference in Smith County called “Shake the Nation.” Among its speakers was a man named Gregory Thompson of the organization, “America Asleep No More”. The theme of this conference was to encourage parents and grandparents to remove their children and grandchildren from the public schools because of the great evils that are prevailing there.
Two weeks ago, while reading the scriptures, I thought about all of the young children who were being destroyed by the destructive ideologies being taught in government schools throughout the United States. The hearts and minds of these children are slowly being polluted day after day with worldly philosophies that aim to destroy them both heart and soul. As I pondered this, the Lord spoke to me and said, “TRY AGAIN!”
So, Patsy and I prayed about going to the schools in our county with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There were nine schools that we chose to go to. We had two very good pamphlets mass produced, one was entitled “ABORTION, HOMOSEXUALITY & ISLAM – WHAT DO THESE THREE HAVE IN COMMON?” and “WHY KIDS ARE KILLING KIDS” both written by Rev. Flip Benham, director of Operation Rescue/Operation Save America. We also chose to hand out an article entitled “MINISTRIES UNITED TO SAVE THE CHILDREN & GRANDCHILDREN FROM EVIL”.
The first school that we visited was called “Defeated Creek Elementary School.” The name alone gave us great hope! God is allowing us to pass out our literature to moms who drop off their children as we stand on the public right-of-way. The response from parents has been overwhelmingly supportive; they receive the literature and tell us that they will read through it! Out of the nine schools on our schedule, we still have two left on our list. It is always exciting to be used of the lord. Only the Lord knows how many of these moms and dads will start schooling their children at home because of what the Lord allowed has us to do!
