God Uses Donkey (LA Times) to Speak Truth

In a remarkable piece on the front page of the LA Times this past Thursday, January 17, 2008, it proclaimed that the number of abortions performed in America is down 25% from its peak in 1990. We have been reporting this news for a number of years now, but this is the first time a major national news source has picked it up. According to the Times: “In the early 1980’s, nearly 1 in 3 pregnant women chose abortion. The most recent data show that the proportion is closer to 1 in 5.” Surprised that the LA Times would let this truth out of the bag? So am I!
Of course the Times puts its own spin on why the numbers are down including chemical abortions, etc., but the news is quite startling for those who have not been out in the streets in the midst of the abortion wars. We have long known that there had been a major downturn in the number of free standing abortion mills in America. It was over 2,000 in 1990, and now it is under 700. The number of abortionists killing children has dropped more than 40%. The number of medical schools teaching the abortion procedure has dropped 57%. Sixty percent of Americans now believe that abortion should be illegal in most cases.
This incredible report, showing up in the LA Times, is demonstrating a real change in the cultural landscape of this country as it relates to abortion. The tide is changing. The culture of death is being overcome by the culture of life. Yes, those who are storming the gates of hell (local abortion mills) with the Gospel of Christ are winning the day.
How do I know that gentle Christians living out their faith in the streets of our cities have had a major impact for the downturn? Pay close attention to the last three paragraphs of the article:
“Some of the biggest drops in the abortion rate, however, have come in states that do not impose tight restrictions. Oregon, for instance, was rated this week by Americans United for Life as the nation’s “least pro-life state,” yet its abortion rate dropped 25% from 2000 to 2005 – more than any state except Wyoming. California also was ranked hostile territory by Americans United for Life, but its abortion rate fell 13%, significantly more than the national average. “Abortion rate” refers to the number of abortions per 1,000 women of reproductive age.” The LA Times has unintentionally informed us that laws restricting (regulating) abortion like Parental Notification, Parental Consent, 24 hour Waiting Period, Fetal Pain Laws, etc., have little to do with the tremendous downturn in the number of abortions. Well then, what is going on? The Church of Jesus Christ is allowing her theology to become biography in the streets and the gates of hell are not prevailing. There are strong sidewalk counseling contingents in both states, along with those who graphically show the truth of what abortion really does. These precious lambs, of whom the world is not worthy, lay down their reputations, their money, their comfort, their lives, every day to be a voice for the voiceless. Yes, God can use the jawbone of a donkey (LA Times) to speak the truth so that all the world may know that He is Lord and that He comes to the aid of His people who are wholly devoted to Him.
