Twenty years ago in Atlanta, Georgia, God birthed a movement fueled by the Gospel of Jesus Christ and immersed in a single word - "repentance."  This move of God radically changed the face of American Christianity and the pro-life movement.  All this took place twenty years ago at the Democratic National Convention in downtown Atlanta.  It was here that the Church of Jesus Christ dared to allow the theology of the church house to become biography in the streets.

I stood amazed as I watched by television in Dallas, Texas.  Precious Christians were laying their lives down in front of abortion mill doors so that others, who could not speak for themselves, could live.  I saw gentle Christians, young and old, black and white, male and female, being thrown into paddy wagons and carted off to the Fulton County Jail because they were living out their faith at the very gates of hell – the local abortion mills in Atlanta.

The national media, already in Atlanta to cover the Democratic National Convention, ran to the scene of these “Rescues.”  It recorded for the entire world to see, Christianity coming out of the closet and expressing, by its actions that children in the womb deserved a defense better than Democrats or Republicans could give.  The media spent more time covering the “Rescues” than the Convention.  No doubt the Democratic ticket that year (Michael Dukakis and Geraldine Ferraro) inspired no one.  But it was God Himself who was orchestrating His platform.  He had something to say to America.

For the first time in my life, I saw real Christianity lived out in the streets by large numbers of Christians.  I saw them weeping, repenting, praying, preaching and singing; all the while positioning themselves in front of the abortion mill doors.  I was overwhelmed by the power and authority that they carried throughout the city.  I wanted to be one of them.

Rescue became a national phenomenon that summer of 1988 because, to the astonishment of all, the Light of the World actually became the light of the world.  God’s Church came out!  People were getting saved, babies were being saved, hearts were being changed, and Christians were beginning to realize that they had power from heaven when they accepted their responsibility to storm the gates of hell.  They weren’t waiting for the Democrats or the Republicans to get it right.

Twenty years ago in Atlanta, we saw what God would do if we simply gave Him an opportunity.   It is time for us to do it again.  The saints in Atlanta are discouraged after the recent defeat of the “Paramount Human Life Amendment” (HR536) on February 20, 2008.  So called “Republican friends” felt HR 536 went too far and would never be passed.  These politicians promoted compromise above biblical principle.  They would not give the saints in Atlanta a chance to fight and win.  They simply surrendered, and we all lost. 

This July 12-19, we are asking you to join us in Atlanta, as we bring the Church of Jesus Christ to the very gates of hell – the local abortion mills.  There are eleven free standing abortion mills in this city with very few Christians standing in the gap.  Those faithful saints who have been fighting this battle for years are greatly encouraged that we are coming.  Let’s giv ‘em heaven in Atlanta and see what God Himself will do.  When we take our position of responsibility, God’s authority (power) will follow.
