They Heard His Cry
Angela Michael with Foreword by Rev. Flip Benham 5/13/2008
How encouraging it is to hear or read of a daring rescue story. Last week over in St. Louis, two men, while in the vicinity of a dumpster, heard a baby’s cries and rescued this newborn from the trash and an imminent death. One man was cutting grass and another was walking in the alley by the trash dumpster when they heard what sounded like a kitten inside a dumpster full of weeds and trash. One man moved the brush aside and saw a little hand moving. The other man reached down and moved the trash away and saw a little baby boy still covered with most of the amniotic sac and placenta and a foot long umbilical cord still attached. They called for help and an ambulance and police were dispatched and arrived in time to save this little boy. At the hospital it was determined that when he was found he was less than an hour old, but in stable condition. Those men who listened and didn’t ignore the cries are true heroes. They rescued that newborn. Had they not, I would hate to think of how that little one would have ended up. But, somewhere a mother who recently gave birth to a little boy who was unloved, unwanted, and abandoned treated her child as if it were trash. I’m glad they found him in time. But you know what? What is the difference with this situation and the scenario that plays out everyday inside the local abortion mill in Granite City just across the river from St. Louis? Mothers premeditatedly plan the murder of their infants and hire a serial killer to remove them and discard their tiny bodies in the trash. What body parts don’t get sold to the highest bidder get a burial by sewer. “Rescue those being led to their slaughter,” Proverbs 24:11-12 gives ALL of us our marching orders. I thank God that He provides for us to rescue and rescue often. It fills our hearts with joy every time we see another life auditioning on the ultrasound screen to his or her parents. Thank you Lord for unexpected blessings. The smallest often become the greatest treasures.
