Last Friday morning in Charlotte, North Carolina, gentle Christian warriors stormed the gates of hell sporting “Horton Hears a Who” T-shirts. That’s right! Moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, boys and girls, and several folks from “The Call” and “Z-Hop” joined us at the abortion mill in Charlotte. It was an extraordinary event put on by two precious warriors for our King, Katherine Hearn and Andrea Hines. There are ways to bring the Church of Jesus Christ into the battle and this novel idea brought a number of new folks into the fray. They were forever changed.
Katherine and Andrea bought all the T-shirts fitting the very smallest to the largest. It was a beautiful sight to see
Christian families standing in the gap on behalf of our preborn brothers and sisters. Many of them had not been to an abortion mill before but they came in spite of their fears because Hollywood made a movie. Can you imagine? “Horton Hears a Who” is a full length film adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ beloved story of an elephant named Horton who hears a “Who” that lives in a tiny village named “Whoville” which is located on the tiniest speck. None of the other jungle animals can hear what Horton hears or see what Horton sees. They consider their friend gone quite mad. Horton, however, remains faithful and true to what he knows even though all in his world doubt him and become angry with him. It is here that Dr. Seuss pens those now most famous words of Horton, “A person is a person no matter how small.”
Even though no one else sees and no one else hears, Horton meant what he said and he said what he meant. How about you and I? Can we stand as Horton stood, against all odds, for the truth that indeed, “a person is a person no matter how small.”
Can God use a Hollywood movie to spur his church into action? I suppose He can. If He can use the jawbone of a donkey to slay thousands of Philistines, He can also use Hollywood to jar us out of our lethargy with His truth. By the way God still uses the jawbone of a donkey, in pulpits across this nation every Sunday morning, to confront us in our sin and lead us to a Savior. Let’s pray that this little movie inspires thousands of us to get our theology out of the Church house and allow it to become biography in the streets where it belongs.
Remember, Horton was just one elephant living out what he knew to be true – how about you!
In Christian Love,
Flip
