A woman who had an abortion at the Hope Clinic in Granite City filed a medical malpractice complaint in Madison County Circuit Court May 20, alleging the procedure to end her pregnancy caused her to become sterile. Represented by Christian Montroy of the Rex Carr Law Firm in East St. Louis, Antoinette Blanton claims co-defendant Allen Palmer, M.D. performed her abortion at the Hope Clinic on March 25, 2006. According to the complaint, Blanton was 17 years old at the time of the abortion. She claims Palmer and the Hope Clinic were negligent for failing to remove the entire fetus which caused personal injuries and an infection that made her sterile. She is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs of the suit. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Andy Matoesian. 08 L 442
