As soon as she opened her mouth to speak, it was apparent to those of us in the audience that this is a woman on fire for King Jesus and His babies. Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was the special guest speaker at the first rally of Operation Save America's Annual Event in Atlanta Saturday night. By way of introduction, OSA's own Dr. Pat McEwen said of her, “Martin Luther King gave his life for his people, Dr. Alveda King has dedicated her life to Life!”
The Spirit-filled mother of eight, (six living) children, and grandmother, said when she attends an event like ours she looks around and wonders, “Where are the black people?” - but, not for the reasons one might suppose. Due to the high abortion rate, (35 to 45%), in the black community, “They are not replacing themselves,”
she lamented.
Dr. King gave two very personal illustrations of the deception of the world's largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, which she said has a racist agenda. Shortly after the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision she became pregnant and was being pressured to have an abortion. “They [Planned Parenthood] told me my baby was not a person. Imagine that! Forty-six chromosomes, 23 from the mother and
23 from the father, yet not considered to be human...“
Planned Parenthood gave her uncle an award in 1966 and has since implied he would endorse their abortion policies. This he would never do, she said. Abortion was not legal in 1966 and Planned Parenthood had not advocated it. “My uncle did not give his life so that black mothers and fathers would kill their children.”
Dr. King read a letter of greetings from Father Frank Pavone who, due to scheduling conflicts, was unable to attend the Atlanta event. We rejoiced and praised God to learn that he recently witnessed two babies saved from death.
Dr. King encouraged us with a reminder that we are not working for victory, we are working from victory - victory is assured through Christ Jesus.
