Spring, 2008 … Veteran sidewalk counselor Don Stubblefield stands in front of the now forever empty parking lot of the Reproductive Services Clinic at 4804 Grover in Austin. No more babies to be killed or women lied to here! Psalm 37:15 – “I have seen a wicked, violent man spreading himself like a luxuriant tree in its native soil. Then he passed away, and lo, he was no more; I sought for him, but he could not be found.”
Don prayed and showed up as a witness for Jesus for 16 years in the rain, heat and cold, sometimes alone. Through Don, members of Burnet Bible Church, Diane Wooley of Save the Baby Humans, and other faithful Christians in the Austin, Texas area, God’s truth in action helped close this Austin clinic this year. This happened despite the clinic receiving a $1 million subsidy from the City of Austin to be paid in five annual installments beginning in 1999! Don says when God’s word is read aloud at clinics, God moves. So saints, unsheath your Sword of the Spirit and watch things happen you hadn’t expected!
Meanwhile, in other Texas cities:
In Fort Worth, Brookes Baker with Life Savers of Tarrant County says that the West Side Clinic, covered now by pro-lifers for some 20 plus years, offers Jesus Monday-Saturday. Help is offered, the gospel proclaimed, and babies are saved.
In Dallas, Ryan Kirchoff reports that currently there are three churches that have stepped up to the plate and are going to a local mill. Each of the Senior Pastors and Youth Pastors are fired up and encouraging their congregations to go WITH them to the mill once a month. The Dallas bunch is now working on a DVD to send out to area churches. The DVD will feature each of the pastors and youth pastors from these three churches encouraging other churches to get involved. Please pray that the Lord will have his way!!! Elsewhere in Dallas, Jim Wells and Brenda Spurlock are at Northpark mill on Meadow Road every Friday. They’ve had several babies saved this year. Jim also witnesses at Robinson's mill Saturdays.
In McAllen, down on the Mexican border, Ryan Kirchoff tells us that the local saints are now proclaiming the Gospel four days a week at the only abortion mill in McAllen! The Lord has blessed the small group of faithful warriors and made their ministry VERY fruitful. They estimate that 1 in 5 women that come to the clinic end up changing their minds! The Lord has also allowed them to open a CPC three blocks from the mill and in the first two weeks alone, three babies were saved.
In Lubbock, longtime sidewalk counselors Dorothy Boyett and Judy Kreller report that no saves have occurred for some time but the West Texas saints are faithful. Dorothy says, “It has been very dry for a long time now. The business is down. All the customers park at the back of the mill and the employees park in the front so we don't have access to people like we used to.” But those two bulldogs for Jesus aren’t giving up yet, and they’ve seen many saves in past years!
Besides these cities, Christians are faithful in San Antonio and Houston. From Houston, Kristine Melchor of the Houston Coalition for Life says that some six to seven mills are seeing those Jesus people regularly with more young people coming out. The Houston folks aren’t letting their city forget this blight, for this September another Houston area 40 Days for Life campaign will kick off. The last campaign involved some 30 churches and 700 people.
So while Texas is in the news these days about generating more power by the wind, a Holy wind is blowing across the plaines leading the saints to carry on and shine for our Lord. Attaboy, Christians!
