Oh how they mocked Jesus!
On Monday, November 3rd, on a crisp Fall day, over 25,000 people poured in to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to see the highly anticipated return of the candidate promising hope and change. They came in with anticipation and high regard for the candidate they support so expressively. Little did they know, as they waited in the breeze, that 12 humble Christians would literally rain on their parade.
As we made our way through campus carrying our signs the jeers began immediately. The people in line moved gregariously with one another forming camaraderie among like-minded individuals to team up against righteousness. The crowd included a menagerie of people from white to black, atheist to supposed Christian, and Jews to Muslims, who proudly sported their “Obama is not a Muslim, but I AM” t-shirts.
Obama gear and Obama t-shirts were being sold. It was more like attending a rock concert than a political forum. We set up in the parking lot beside the Obama supporters as they stood in line to get into the field. We meekly displayed Malachi to the world of Obama supporters, and he did not go ignored. The crowd chanted “Obama” and “Yes we can.”. Obscene gestures were shot our way. We were bombarded with screams of “Freedom of Choice”, “What about the war in Iraq ”, “What about all the kids in foster care?” and these are the most congenial replies received. God was blasphemed and Jesus received ridicule. Parents screamed, cussed, and took the Lord’s name in vain in confrontational ways, because they were upset their children were being exposed to the aborted baby. The irony was they were only 5 feet away from their children when they exposed them to the hate that flowed from their mouths.
Everyone in line after 3pm was forced to pass us. We shared the Gospel to the masses. We shared the Truth, that the only Man who will bring real Hope and desired Change is the Son of God!! Jesus was our focus. The choice was clear: Barack Hussein Obama or Jesus Christ!!
One of the most appalling declarations of the night came from the prayer on the inside. One of our 12 made it to the inside and recalled the prayer from the supposed preacher going a little something like this: “Lord, we pray to you. We lift your name up. You have many names: Jesus, Allah..” (and he stated many more.) The prayer was long and lengthy in which he declared Obama as the president, and then he finished the prayer stating “Lord, we pray to help us not to fear man and NOT to fear you.”
It’ll be Heaven before we’ll ever know how many people Jesus touched in the line through Malachi and the 12, but one thing is very clear. Though Obama may win the election, Jesus has the Victory!
