A push to silence pro-lifers on 'Roe' anniversary

A pro-life organization in Charlotte, North Carolina, is being silenced on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
Operation Save America attempted to present its pro-life message in the city by hosting a festival for a Roe v. Wade anniversary event, but Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) attorney Rick Nelson says town officials have taken action to stop them.
According to an ADF press release, Rev. Flip Benham wanted to give a public evangelical gospel presentation and include a Christian band as well as pro-life messages from Christian pastors and post-abortive mothers. However, the city of Charlotte denied Benham a festival permit, calling the event a demonstration instead.
"So they created, basically, a bunch of loopholes that they had to jump through to be able to get their message out," he explains. "And at the end of the day, it wound up [with] them nearly going to jail because the Charlotte Police Department determined that they were in near violation of the noise regulation."
In a federal lawsuit, Operation Save America is simply asking to be treated the same as any other group holding an event that does not have to comply with similar rules. "We were able, in this case, to get a lot of evidence that shows that the city is not playing evenly with different groups," Nelson adds.
Simply put, Nelson notes Christian and pro-life groups should not be prohibited from publicly celebrating their beliefs.
