No Mr. President – Don’t Even Tread There!
Pastor Sam Greene with foreword by Rev. Flip Benham 6/2/2009
"No, Mr. President, we dare not tread there."
With the shooting death of Dr. George Tiller on Sunday, abortion is once again thrust into the national spotlight as Americans feel the uncomfortable heat of its intensity. As long as innocent blood is shed in the womb and America continues adrift in the sea of immorality, violence and tolerance of every deviant lifestyle, we should expect more of the same. The Bible is clear on the subject: "By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood." -Hosea 4:2. In other words, shedding innocent blood begets more of the same.
Even our president understands the sensitivity of the subject as he warily navigates the waters of abortion whenever he is questioned. In a cunningly devised speech on the subject he asked the question: "Can we start to talk about the things we do agree on?" He continued with "...reducing teen pregnancy, making it less likely for women to find themselves in the circumstances where they've got to anguish themselves over these decisions..."
While there is merit in accomplishing those goals and I agree they are noble, there is something inherently wrong with his premise. His argument presupposes that the pro-life movement move to a posture of negotiating the death of some while we nobly prevent the death of others. No, Mr. President, with all due respect, as a pro-life advocate, I cannot and will not surrender that argument. To do so, would be to turn my back on the millions of innocent lives being lost to the abortion industry. Those who are truly pro-life will never sit at that table of compromise.
If you really want to bring change we can believe in, try upholding and defending the Constitution that your oath of office requires. Let every child be welcomed into life and protected by those who uphold the Constitution. Otherwise, your empty rhetoric is meaningless.
