“Did you get one of these?” I asked, as I reached out towards the young man. He looked down at the tract in my hand. “No thanks.”
I looked him in the eyes. “It has a great message on it.” He shook his head. As I turned back towards the crosswalk, I heard his voice beside me. “Not to offend you, but I’m on the other side.”
I turned and looked him in the eyes. “What side is that?” He lifted his hand towards a chain around his neck and raised a cross in his fingers. The cross was some kind of dark metal and was hanging upside down. It was then that I also noticed the demonic Manson t-shirt he was wearing. I looked at the cross, the t-shirt and then back into the eyes of a lost young man. They were sad eyes…his soul was convinced he already belonged to the devil and that nothing could change that.
“Why would you want to be on that side? Doesn’t the thought of eternity in Hell concern you?” Sometimes a direct approach seems appropriate.
“It’s okay.” He replied. “I’ve accepted it and I’m alright with it.” Again, his eyes said different. The sadness and hopelessness was evident and it was also evident that this young man was under conviction of the Holy Spirit.
“Satan is a liar.” I said. “What’s your name?”
“Jody.”
“Jody, don’t let Satan lie to you. You need to understand that the only unforgivable sin is to deny God and His Son Jesus Christ until you die. Once you are dead, then yes, that is final.”
After considerable conversation with Jody, I realized that he was under a strong influence of the devil’s lies. However, I also saw the Holy Spirit at work in this young man as we walked by the Operation Save America display of aborted babies. He stopped to look at the pictures, and the tears in his eyes gave me courage to speak again.
“Jody. Listen to me. If Satan had complete control over you, you would not be hurting from these pictures. He is lying to you Jody. Jesus loves you, Jody!”
“I appreciate your compassion.” Jody said. “But really, it’s okay.”
Jody did let us pray with him later. However, he would not let us touch his shoulder or his cross. During this entire conversation, a friend of Jody’s had been hovering nearby. I did not realize that this friend was extremely angry at our entire conversation, but fortunately, Jim and George saw his body language and were watching/praying for Jody and I to be able to communicate and share without interruption.
We left Jody, praying that the Holy Spirit would continue to speak to this young man and that others would be led to him who could guide him to the Father. He was kicked out of the area shortly after our conversation, unfortunately, I watched him walk down Las Vegas Street praying for his soul. John 3:36
It is ironic… that a young man that swears allegiance to Satan can find compassion in his heart to cry for aborted babies, yet hundreds of professed Christians walked by that same display turning their heads and their hearts. I stopped trying to count the number of people that walked up to the display expressing disgust that “those pictures” were being shown on the streets of Las Vegas. As they explained away their apathy towards the slaughter of millions of babies, many of these people said they were Christians, and some were clergy. The thing I noticed most in the eyes of these people was fear. The fear of being frowned upon, mocked, or possibly labeled “one of those” kept them from speaking out.
Regardless of the excuses given, none of them could explain how it is that only 100+ people that participated in the Las Vegas Operation Save America campaign had been able to shut down four abortion clinics for that one week. Only one hundred people, and four out of ten clinics shut their doors for a week. What if 1,000 people had stood at the gates of hell and told the truth to those that are being lied to? What if on Saturday morning a church van full of people went and stood at the abortion clinic and told the “Truth”? I suppose it may be too late, it appears that we have already resigned ourselves that we are in the end times and the Bible says these things will happen…
Yes, it is tough to fight laws, however, we are called to bear witness to Jesus Christ, not to man’s laws. We can still tell these people the “truth” of Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 1:17
