Dear Sheriff Doug Gillespie,

It is with great pleasure that I am writing to you to commend the professionalism and courtesy of your officers and the manner in which they not only kept the peace, but upheld their Oath of Office to defend the US Constitution. This was especially true of the way they performed their duties in every instance and at every venue where we ministered the Christian “Gospel of Life” message from July 15-22, 2009. All of your officers and their various supervisors that we encountered understood how significant it is in these days to lawfully facilitate all of our various freedoms protected by the First Amendment. I will tell you, sadly, that has not been the case in every jurisdiction where we have been before. Las Vegas’ finest have surely been the exception!

There were just too many instances of professionalism to mention them all, but one clearly stands out because of the uniqueness of the situation and the number of issues that required experience, judgment and the ability to communicate. We wish to commend Sgt Raymond Reyes of the Downtown Command. While we were at the Fremont Street Experience with our display and several people, including families, Sgt Reyes and his officers were ever vigilant and gave all of us, including the thousands of passers-by, a real sense of security. This type of professional police presence provided just the public ministry venue we had hoped. We were able to preach, worship and share the truth about abortion (some of which was the horribly graphic reality of child killing) and do so unimpaired. Hundreds of “one on one” discussions with visitors and locals took place peacefully and quite successfully as a direct result of these officers providing a safe, public venue.

Whether on the public pedestrian overpasses on the strip, in front of abortion facilities, Planned Parenthood, various churches, or the Fremont Street Experience, we were protected and treated fairly by every Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer and supervisor. As you know, being a former Metro Officer (having even served with you on several calls 25+ years ago) I was especially proud to have served then and have been so encouraged once again by these men and women. I pray for you often, Sheriff, and trust Jesus to do His very best through you, always.
