Greensboro Police Are at it Again
by Levi Gray
Last week, you all read a report about our "adventures" at an abortion clinic in Greensboro, North Carolina on October 17, 2009.(If you haven't read it, here's the link: http://amightyroar.blogspot.com/2009/10/testimony-of-gods-grace-in-greensboro.html Please consider this as part two, because as we expected, the police of Greensboro weren't finished with us yet.
On October 24, 2009, we arrived at the abortion clinic property. Earlier in the week, we heard that the Chinese woman (on whose parking lot we were assembling) had eagerly consented to the use of her property. Later on, we discovered that the police had somehow intimidated the woman into signing a form prohibiting us from being able to use it! It shouldn't have surprised me since the detective(Finch) said the previous Saturday, "We're going to make sure you are not allowed to be on this property." We came regardless, and stood on the sidewalks on both sides of the street with graphic pictures displaying the truth of abortion. It wasn't long until the cops came out. The two cops who harassed us last week weren't there, but Detective Finch had returned, with a policeman named J.A. Fulmore, and another man,(not in uniform), Officer Gonzales. This time, I was ready with camera in hand to film every interaction with the police officers. Detective Finch approached and searched James, then asked him for identification(which James refused). Finch then focused his attention on Flip, who was standing with a graphic sign at a telephone pole. The sign was strapped to the pole with a bungee cord. After failing to get identification from him, Finch began badgering Flip about the sign, saying that the sign had to come down for various reasons. In the midst of this conversation, Officer J.A. Fulmore approached me, saying that I need to back away from the officer while I was filming. I pointed my camera at him while he was talking, which agitated him a bit. He asked me to keep a clear distance from the police officer while he was "doing his duty." Later he told me that I was to stay 10 feet from the officer, then changed it to 19 feet. Flip asked me to go to the other side in order to get clear audio of Detective Finch. I attempted to maintain a "clear distance" from the officer while moving down the sidewalk to get a better angle. There was a hedge behind me, so it was hard to back up any further. However, Officer Fulmore continued to assert that I should back away from the officer, and that I "can't walk around police officers." I continued down the sidewalk and it was then that Officer Fulmore ripped the camera out of my hands. What was interesting to me was that instead of pushing me out of the way of the officer and keeping me at a clear distance, he took away the camera, and left me standing where I was. If I was committing a crime by standing where I was, he made no preventative measures towards me, he simply grabbed the camera. It seems contradictory to the statement he made while we were discussing the situation later, "It's not the camera issue, it's he got too close to the place. Eventually, Detective Finch attempted to question everyone standing with us, and Officer Fulmore gave back our camera. It seems atrocious that these men had been questioning and harassing us, when across the street, innocent baby boys and girls were being ripped to pieces inside of the womb. These cops had come against us in the name of safety, order, and courtesy, when just yards away a few precious children would never know the meaning of those words. It does not matter to us what troubles or trials await us in Greensboro. We will stand up for Christ and for life no matter what the cost, just as He did for us, going willingly to the cross for our sakes. This is the video I took: |
