Cartoon an unfair, inaccurate portrayal of Operation Save America

By Kristin Wilson

Jeers to Ross Gosse, Editoons, iNCk, and the Independent Tribune for running a biased editorial cartoon on Sunday, November 29th, giving an unfair and inaccurate portrayal of Operation Save America, and an even more false depiction of Jesus Christ.

I was a part of the group that stood peacefully outside of Cox Mill High School on  November 24th, exposing the dangers of abortion to the high school students.

The local media, as expected, portrayed us as extreme; villains who enjoy terrorizing young children at school.  The cartoon makes us look disgusting, hateful, and downright ugly.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

The media raised questions about our method.  Should such graphic pictures be shown to our children?  I propose the same question.  Should drivers education use pictures of tragic traffic accidents to show the devastation of speeding, drunk driving, or texting while at the wheel?

Should civil rights leaders use photos of black men’s lifeless bodies hanging from trees to educate about slavery?  Should they show the bruised, beaten, scorned faces of these men, that were caused by the hands of the white men, to talk about the struggle?

Should society show the pictures of the decayed, famished, discarded bodies of the Jews piled carelessly on top of one another to show the nightmare and horror of the Holocaust?  If not, how will people ever know what truly happened, or what could happen if precaution is not taken?

Such are the pictures of the dead babies.  Abortion is real.  Abortion has caused the death of 50 million babies in our country since 1973.  Abortion has harmed young ladies and women and driven many to depression or suicide.  If the pictures of abortion are not shown, how will women ever have a fair choice if faced with this crisis and delicate situation?

What I find most interesting, however, is the outrage over the picture of the dead baby, yet no one is angry about the fact that someone killed the baby.  The anger is misplaced here. My question is, if the pictures are that bad, why do we put up with the practice?

“Well, why a high school?” the media asked.  There are 3 murderous abortion clinics in Charlotte .  Teen pregnancy is no surprise to anyone, and because teenage pregnancies have increased dramatically over the past 20 years, it is imperative that high school young ladies know the truth and dangers about abortion.  Pre-marital sex is as common as CDs and DVDs.  These impressionable teens should be given all their options, but unfortunately our school system is too partial to present the truth.

“Well, what about the elementary school students across the street?  How dare Operation Save America show these graphic images to such young kids!”  As a matter of fact, there is no evidence that the images of aborted babies are damaging or traumatizing to young children.  When a child sees the pictures, they will want an explanation of what they’ve seen.

Therein lies the problem.  The problem, however, is not the child’s, but the parents.  For a parent to explain to a young child that they’ve just seen a dead baby that was killed by abortion, they must first then admit that abortion kills babies.  For a “pro-choice” person, this is admitting they support murder.  Who is going to admit this?  So, the “pro-choice” person lashes out at the one carrying the sign instead.

For the “pro-life” person, they too will have to explain to the child that the baby was killed, but then questions might arise as to why they are not doing more to help bring this treacherous act called abortion to an end.  This could result in self-evaluation, and no one wants to go there.

While worse than an elementary school student seeing a picture of a dead baby is, in fact, the actual dead baby itself, Operation Save America purposely packed up all of their signs at precisely 7:15am.  Cox Mill Elementary School begins at 8:15am and the students begin arriving at 7:55am.  The signs were gone before the young elementary students could see them, which Mr. Gosse would know if he researched and relied on facts.  But then again, he wouldn’t have material for a cartoon if he did that.

Christians are called to stand up for the oppressed (unborn babies) and go to the ends of the earth and preach the gospel (in this case, Cox Mill High School ).  Jesus stood for truth.  Operation Save America tells the truth.  If the signs are too graphic, then maybe so is abortion.

Finally, the depiction of Jesus in the cartoon was blasphemous, deceptive, and just plain wrong.  Seriously, Mr. Gosse, who are you kidding?  Jesus Christ would never be allowed to be that close to a public school building.

About Operation Rescue/Operation Save America
Operation Rescue/Operation Save America unashamedly takes up the cause of preborn children in the name of Jesus Christ. We employ only biblical principles. The Bible is our foundation; the Cross of Christ is our strategy; the repentance of the Church of Jesus Christ is our ultimate goal. As the Church changes its heart toward unborn children, God Himself will hear from heaven, forgive our sin, and bring healing to our land.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the only answer to the abortion holocaust. It is upon our active repentance in the streets of our cities that the Gospel is visibly lived out. We become to the church, to our city, and to our nation living parables which rightly represent God's heart toward His helpless children.

There are no cheap political solutions to the holocaust presently ravaging our nation. Like slavery before it, abortion is preeminently a Gospel issue. The Cross of Christ is the only solution.
