OSA Birmingham Report, Friday, July 20th - Operation Rescue/Operation Save America

Planned Parenthood didn’t kill all week and, although it’s impossible for us to know for certain that no babies were killed, OSA-Birmingham leader David Lackey said he failed to see the usual signs that abortions were taking place at New Woman All Women Health Care.

“That makes July 14 – July 21 the safest week for little unborn babies in Birmingham in 13 years!” Flip Benham said. Thirteen years ago was the last time we were here.

“Once again gentle Christians proved more powerful than we know,” he said, “because we serve a God that is greater than we believe.”

For the most part, we found favor with police this week. The stand-out exception was Sgt. Smith who was earnestly looking for reasons to arrest us. On different days he threatened Pastor Ronnie Wallace, James Esser, and Ken Scott with arrest, saying that they were preaching too loud even though they had no sound amplification. He told a number of people they couldn’t stand on the sidewalk because “Your permit has expired.” (Since when does a U. S. citizen need a permit in order to stand on a public sidewalk?)

Sgt. Smith even tried to arrest the bagpipe player as he prepared to play at our memorial service for little Sarah. He was told he couldn’t warm up his pipes. The bagpipe player replied that he was going to warm up. The sergeant said, “No, you’re not!”

The bagpipe player said, “I will warm up my pipes!”

“Then I will arrest you!”

“Let me put it this way,” he said, “I’m going to warm up my pipes, and I’m a lawyer, so if you arrest me I will sue you!”

At this point, the sergeant found better things to do than to harass the bagpipe player who, it turned out, also plays at the funerals of Birmingham police officers.

However, Sgt. Smith finally did achieve his goal Friday, arresting (who else?) Flip Benham!

First, he told Flip that he didn’t have a permit to be preaching on the sidewalk. OSA had spent $792 for permits, so Flip easily verified through the police captain that we did have a permit. Next, although Sgt. Smith told Flip he was in violation of the noise ordinance, he charged him with “disorderly conduct.” Flip was sure, however, that “The Bible was the main problem.”

Diane Derzis, clinic owner of All Women, had a yard art display all ready for the OSA Annual Event. It included a blow-up porpoise on which she had written “They call him Flipper.” After police took Flip to jail, she added these words on the fin, “In Birmingham City Jail.”

She also has the door that Eric Rudolph bombed with the message written on it, “You did this!”

“Ms. Derzis believes she is a Christian but when you talk to her,” Flip revealed, “you learn she doesn’t at all believe in the God of the Bible.”

“When a person thinks they’re already a Christian,” he said, “that makes them twice the son/daughter of hell as they were before.”

She considers us to be judgmental bigots.

Let’s pray for genuine salvation for Ms. Derzis.

Ecclesiastical Court
The Church of Jesus Christ met at 11:00 am at the Federal Court Building to hold an Ecclesiastical Court.

The U. S. Supreme Court was declared in contempt of the Court of Almighty God for six wicked rulings. These rulings included removing prayer (Engle vs. Vitale, 1962), the Bible (Abington vs. Schempp, 1963), and the Ten Commandments (Stone vs. Graham, 1980) from our schools; removing the humanity and personhood of the unborn (Roe vs. Wade, 1973), declaring itself to be God (Planned Parenthood vs. Casey, 1992) and declaring sodomy to be a constitutional right (Lawrence vs. Texas, 2003).

The Supreme Court has sinned against God, betrayed our nation and its citizens, and invited the wrath of a Holy God to fall on us.

Flip Released
Flip was released from jail Friday afternoon at 4:40pm in time to make the nighttime rally. He said, “It’s been a great wrap-up of tremendous things God did through simple little Christians.”

“One of the thoughts bandied about the entire week,” he said, “was what would happen if every church conference and youth camp could be like this one. What a change it would make in this nation if everyone had their people out there doing theology in daytime and learning about theology at night. We could take the country back in six months," he said. "But as it stands now, the church feels safe and secure in the closet while the enemies of God are parading their sin like Sodom in the street.”
