He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God (Micah 6:8)?
This passage of Scripture has been designated by some theologians as the “Micah Mandate.” The verse contains the great Biblical principles and the triad virtues that are summed up in the law, the prophets, and most importantly, in the life of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The order is important in God’s economy. Justice must be established first for mercy to flow in the humility of God.
It is clear in the Gospels that the King of kings and the Lord of lords was on mission to establish the Micah Mandate. Jesus boldly confronted the religious leaders of His day for neglecting it. He denounced their religiosity for rendering useless the virtues of justice, mercy, faith, and humility which the mandate required. He cried out, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone” (Matthew 23:23).
Do you ever wonder what Jesus would say to the modern day church concerning this mandate? Have we pursued money, reputation, and comfort at the expense of justice, mercy, and humility? Does our silence, neglect, and abandonment of our culture strengthen the oppressors in our society? Do we inadvertently prolong the suffering of victims led to slaughter? Do those who are “unjustly sentenced to death” take a secondary role as a priority in the Church (Proverbs 24:11, 12)?
Has the pursuit of theological escapism, cultural retreatism, and feel good religion within the church help to contribute to the demise of America? Are we rendering useless the Micah Mandate like our religious predecessors? I believe it is vital we answer these questions honestly and make any necessary adjustments to fulfill this godly expectation in our day.
God willing, Operation Save America is going to Indianapolis, IN this year to prayerfully live out this mandate in Jesus’ name! We will, by God’s grace, come alongside local churches and pastors to help establish this mission. The theme is “Lead justice to Victory.” The dates are July 14th-21st.
We must remember, though God is love, He is also a God of Justice. These attributes of God do not conflict, but are harmonious in His Kingdom. God’s Word declares, “Righteousness and Justice are the foundation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face” (Psalms 89:14). Christ indeed came to earth to “Lead justice to victory” (Matthew 12:20). God’s Word promises, “He will not fail nor be discouraged, Till He has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands shall wait for His law” (Isaiah 42:4).
There will be street activities every day, training sessions each afternoon, and impactful rallies each night. Experts in their fields will come to impart what it will take to lead justice to victory and abolish all abortion now in the state of Indiana.
IN KING JESUS’ SERVICE,
Rev. Rusty Lee Thomas, National Director, Operation Save America
