Operation Save America

Today, we are going to investigate some more prayers of the Bible, when things were bleak, dangerous, and threatening to nations.
I’ve heard a lot of testimonies in my life on how folks came to know the Lord and experience His great salvation. I never heard one who said my life was so good, I was on top of my game, and all the stars were aligned in my favor, so I thought it was a good time to surrender my life to the Lord. Not happening!
Every single testimony revealed people were at their wit’s end, the consequence of their sin had taken its toll, and the smell of death was stalking them. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23).
What is true for individuals is also true for nations. Many times in America’s history, Presidents called for official days of prayer, fasting, and repentance on the behalf of our nation when times were difficult. Unfortunately, it is rare in these days. Our statist government is too busy taxing us to death to replace the true and living God in the life of our citizens and replace fathers in our homes. America is going broke providing a Messianic state for its people.
We are already trillions dollars of debt pursuing this maddening course, so what do we do when a supposed “crisis” like Covid-19 hits the planet? We pass another bill for 2 trillion more. Who is going to pay for this?
Instead of Americans humbling themselves and turning back to God and crying out to Him, we turn to the same 3 failed policies that accumulated this massive debt in the first place: more bail out money, more government programs, and more education (Tack on more incredible debt upon our young).
Meanwhile, in 1 Samuel 7, Israel was in hot water again. This time their ancient foe, the Philistines, were at the door and threatening to attack. Israel lamented their plight. Samuel, the prophet of the Lord, gave them sound advice before he prayed to God for their deliverance. He declared:
“If you return to the Lord with all your hearts, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths from among you, and prepare your hearts for the Lord, and serve Him only; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.” So the children of Israel put away the Baals and the Ashtoreths, and served the Lord only” (1 Samuel 7:3, 4).
With all America’s technological advancements and higher learning, I find it interesting the nature of man does not change, apart from God’s intervention. We still fall for the ancient evils. We are still prone to be ensnared by the altars of Moloch (child sacrifice) Baal, and Ashtoreth.
Asherah was identified as the moon goddess who belonged to the family of gods associated with Baal the sun god (Judges 3:7; 6:28). Worship to her included sexual immorality, prostitution, divination, and fortune telling. As a result, the Mosaic Law spoke specifically against Asherah worship (Deuteronomy 16:21).
Feminism, which has led us to abortion and helped to establish the homosexual agenda, is steeped in goddess worship. If you ever minister at a death camp, you will realize how defiled our nation is with this pagan idolatry.
As Israel is experiencing the consequence of their idolatry, however, they, at least, had the sense to go to the prophet and implore him to intercede, “Do not cease to cry out to the Lord our God for us, that He may save us from the hand of the Philistines” (1 Samuel 7:8).
Samuel proceeded to offer a sacrifice to the Lord. In typical deliverance fashion, the Lord thundered and sent confusion in the enemies camp. The Philistines were routed and Israel experienced a great victory in the Lord. Samuel, in honor of the Lord’s intervention set up a stone “and called its name Ebenezer, saying, ‘Thus far the Lord has helped us’ ” (1 Samuel 7:12).
In trying times like ours, if you are a believer, look back to the Ebenezer stones in your life. Call to remembrance the faithfulness of God in times past. The Apostle Paul stated, “Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead, who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us” (2 Corinthians 1:9, 10).
If you are an unbeliever, I would adjure you to forsake your idols, your religious pride, and your rebellion against the true and living God, the Creator of the heavens and earth. God’s Word declares this promise to you:
“Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon” (Isaiah 55:6, 7).
Today could be the day of your salvation, when you come to understand that your idols are impotent to save you from your sin, disaster, and death. Only the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ empowered by the Holy Ghost can deliver you from the evil that lurks within your own wicked heart and the deadly plagues that men and nations fear to the point of panic as we see in these days.
